Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Help me!

    Hi everyone,

Recently bought a mk6 Golf GTI. Car came with a couple of mods including a CobbAccesport running a stage 2 map.

I hate to say it but i regret buying it. Sorry but the car is such a massive let down performance wise. My twin cam SX corolla from the 90's feels quicker than my golf GTI. I think the most emabarssing moment so far was having a mk6 golf R driver (who was female) try to give me a run but i didn't even bother as i knew i'd lose my nuts if i did.

I honestly hope that the lack of power is due to a fault or issue with the car and hence can be fixed and performace issues rectified.

Anyways, i've joined this forum so that i can learn more about my golf and hopefully start to love it a little.

    Thanks people.

ImARocket: hi. A healthy sense of ego in your words - which is a good thing!

Hmmm...don't take offense because none is intended - but everything about your post (including your forum name and the thinly-veiled misogynist humor) screams loudly a young car owner (ain't nothing wrong with being young- and it's certainly not your fault)!!

On a more serious note- there is clearly insufficient information in your post for an informed response - especially given the after-market mods that have been inflicted on this car!.

If you intend to keep this car and if you are serious about "learn[ing] more about my golf and hopefully start to love it a little" - I suggest that you consider purchasing a good diagnostic device! Of course this means that you will need to learn its use - but you can get help here if this is a problem

If you don't want to buy the tool - this forum has a kind-of pimping facility that introduces consenting forum members that own a diagnostic device and that live local to those that do not. If you want to use this facility - click vag-com-scanning-who-can-help

I suggest that you contact a forum member in the South west Sydney region and get a SCAN from the car - this will answer your question about faults

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

Some of those 90's buzz boxes were pretty quick being pretty small and light in comparison with a kerb weight of around 1,000kg with up to 103kW in the later 16v TwinCam models vs the Mk6 with kerb weight of closer to 1,400kg, although it should have the power to make up for it at 155kW+ your tune.

Getting it scanned for faults would be a good start, even a cheap OBD reader should be able to tell you IF there are faults, but a proper VAG tool will give you more detail.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
