Back in the '90s, I learned to drive in my mum's bay window kombi. It was an awful, rusty, drafty, old thing that usually smelled like it was on fire even when it wasn't. I loved it so much, and I'm still a bit sad that she sold it when she stopped driving. Since then I've driven a selection of 80s and 90s holdens which were various levels of crap, then most recently a 2002 outback, which was ok but didn't really fit wife + kid + dog + stroller + bags + etc + etc + etc all that well and also wasn't long enough for me to sleep in the back the few times a year I get away on my own. I thought screw it, I'm getting a van.
Having decided to get a van there was really only one option. But the wife said no to a mid 70s kombi so we ended up with the multivan. So 20 years after I last drove a vw van, I'm back in one and it's pretty great, if a bit more modern than I would have liked. It's a '13 TDI340 Comfortline and it's got about a million times more buttons and controls than I'm used to. Drives real nice though.
First and stupidest question I'm gonna ask: The handbook says there should be an MFD option for "freewheel", and I can't see it. It's probably just me being an idiot, but is there anything special I have to do to see that option? Or is it not an actual thing on this model?
Also, the transmission in this thing is the "DQ500", right?
