Nice footage! Cool to see the video from the Fabia this time.

Also I'm not sure if it was just me, but I found the first cone that separated pit entry and continuing with laps (exit of eastern loop) to be placed a little inconveniently. Maybe I wasn't letting the car run wide enough early enough, not sure. Thoughts?

I'll upload my video soon. My litecoin farm keeps stealing my internet speed away from me.

Yup, cones too close to exit of eastern loop. If you run a clean driving line, you'd mow the cones. And the slalom at the bus stop... might as well be a bus stop. hehe. Totally understand the reason, and support it, but the cones being that close detracts from the intent.

Yes unfortunately the cones are a bit tight and makes it more of a spirited cruise than a track preparation.
I spoke to Doug about the cone placement but they are limited to what the insurance company will let them do so we can even get these type of events continuing.
The "anyone hits a cone adn everyone comes off" policy is also slowing people down a bit more than what you would expect as the cones are tight and no one wants to be the guy who ends the event after 2 laps etc.

So slow that it's wheelspin in 2nd or turbo lag in 3rd. Really took the edge off things I thought. Was like a carpark for the first few laps.

I wonder if a 30 second gap between cars entering the track would make a difference. I know it's happy laps still, just thinking of improving the experience.

I must admit, I don't really have a problem with the chicane, it adds more corners. I like corners I kind of wish they were a little closer to the karousel so I don't have to change up to 3rd and only use it for 2-4 seconds before having to start braking and downshifting to 2nd. I just keep it in 2nd most times now anyway and not go very fast because I find it is a little pointless changing up. 2nd is really, REALLY long in my car. I think the 208 driver will know what I'm talking about.

And yeh it is understandable why people go uber slow through the chicane, I certainly wouldn't want to be the guy that made everyone come off early. I could probably go through a little faster myself but I don't want to risk it just in case.

            • I actually found that I could really easily fly through the slalom this time actually (as long as there was no jam in front of course). Hard on the brakes, down to second, hard right, straighten up, power on.

I think 4wd is the plus for you. As big brother could be watching I am going to keep schtum from now on.

I found i was able to brake a lot later in which made it go quicker.

The majority of cars at the event are FWD with only the R8, my Tiguan and the few Golf R's being AWD.

                      Don't forget the S3 either

I think Gavin was talking about Qld Raceway monitoring what is said and he doesn't want to get us in trouble by talking about it in a track event way rather than a cruise - I might be wrong though

                        Ahh you are probably right.
Although it feels like you are flying through there if you get it at any more than 20km/h when there isn't any traffic.

                        • I totally understand the bus stop cones and think they do what they are intended to do. The cone placement leading onto the front straight could be adjusted but still keep single file and pit lane entry clear. We need to remember that its happy laps and accept it for what is. A sprinted drive to put a smile on your dial for $33.50. I think its awesome fun! Great thing is we as a group are really well behaved and the culture within the group and on the forum helps its continued success.

                          • No one is negating the intent, I support it and usually enjoy them, it's congestion caused by those not carrying reasonable pace, or braking 100m before. It is to be a spirited drive, not a brake and roll event, lol.

While on the high horse, some idea of racing lines and braking points would allow for better circulating and less congestion, albeit within the speed/safety considerations of the occasion. Just saying.
