Jed, yup, if we can create a large enough group of enthusiasts, a dedicated track day just for us will be a possibility. And if not, at least we can have a few drivers "represent" at organised sprints.

Sean, you still gotta hit the twisties on a public road, because it's apples and oranges

Tobes, less serious is all good. Investing in ceramic pads means you won't go through brake linings and an extra set of wheels with tyres just for the track means you won't chew through your street rubber. Just a suggestion. Or, take it easy, like you said.
Cheers, yeah. Have been to a few HL events at both LSP and QR. Generally everyone was well behaved, but as with most things there's usually one or two who can't help themselves.

I'll usually give it a bit for a few laps, and back off 10% for the rest. The risk of damage or crashing is not worth it for a $50k daily. If it was a $20k 5 year old car or something, I'd spend money on tyres, brakes and suspension and get more serious, but for me it's just an opportunity to (legally) let out the cobwebs, not try and show everybody how much of a top gun driver I am... My money gets dumped into mortgage payments and overseas travel instead. I don't know if that deserves a happy face or sad face emoticon...lol

+1 to spending more on trips than driving beyond my limits.
But the wife does say I drive more settled now I let my hair down on snappy laps

I'd be in - but prefer the sprint and clubman track. My car isn't great on those long straights.

Thanks whplash. We'll have to see how numbers go, since national requires the most number of drivers. But it is a track that quite a few people look forward to. Are you saying you'd skip the national HL and only go for the other two?

That's if there was a choice - I'd prefer the shorter layout. I do some track days at QR on my Mbike on the full circuit, and one straight rather than two would be enough - it's the twisty bits I like. Certainly chews out the R side of my bike tyres.

The tentative plan is, depending on numbers, to offer a HL every month, and at each, there would be one circuit. So the same circuit would repeat 3 months later, in that scenario.

i'd love to join as i feel more comfortable at QR than LS.

not sure if I'm welcome as i don't have an Euro anymore (used to have a Mk5 GTI but moved onto an 86 last year). i have been to many happy laps organised by Clay tho.

I would love to move onto sprints eventually but i think there are lots of room for my driving skill to improve and track time during happy laps sessions are great for me to get more milage under my belt.

thanks for taking up organising this Machine.

yup, front left tyre cops a flogging at QR. Turns 1 and 2 are responsible for that, high speed, high load. Great fun

VW Happy laps doesn't really allow the level of committment to the corners that say sprints does, so the load is marginally less, which allows for street oriented cars to circulate safely with lesser concern of overheating brakes and tyres. It's the difference between driving at 8-9 / 10ths where it's all composed, to pushing to the limit of braking and tyres where things get interesting. HL's is the prior driving style.

We're at 21 + me = 22. I'll leave it until the end of the week before deciding how to move forward. Most likely, first event will be April or May on sprint circuit and we'll see how we go from there...

So why isn't QR filling up as fast as Lakeside? - If anyone even mentions the B word, I will neck 'em.
Charging one's daily driver around any circuit for under $100 with a bunch of like minded people has
to be the best fun you can have with your clothes on. More tracks = more fun = sign up you lot.

I agree with Brash, I am so thankful Lakeside is free that I don't mind paying a bit in this instance.

Sorry, QR is as boring as it gets. I like Lakeside for the greater variation and more realistic geography (read as elevation changes). Feels more like real on road driving which is what I like!
