The Yellow rocco is well finished, not my cup of tea but really well done , would never knock it and should have been in the line up for sure. Im way over the bulk kits but take my hat off if they are done right just like the rocco

The yellow rocco was really clean, paint was perfect, underneath it was very tidy aswell along with a black leather interior. The wheels are OZ racing, would have liked to meet the owner and check out the 2litre 16v turbo setup... It was for sale last year on car sales.sigpic

then i went to the best (like they say, "you've been with the rest, now your with the best")...Queen Street Customs.
They did the paint work, got me the wheels, sprayed the wheels, they did the interior and re-tuned my stereo. The only thing i do with the car myself is service and clean it
If you saw my paint, you can clearly see why they have one of Australia's Top Painters there...To be honest, i wouldnt take my car anywhere else. They know excatly what they are doing, he is been doing it for well over 10 years. They are always coming up with new creative ideas for cars...

Opinions aside (I do respect other people's thoughts) and going only slightly off-topic, I disagree with you on that. While doing the work to your car is rewarding and comparatively cheap a lack of skills, tools, experience, knowledge, advice and all sorts of other things can be extremely demotivating. No idea what you drive (if you drive?) so I don't know if you've gone through this process of doing things yourself, but I myself don't have the guts to attempt a lot of things that need fixing on my car. Imagine being Kevin, trying to sort out the extremely intricate paint job or re-trim. I know for sure I'd palm it off to a workshop to finish, complete with their own arsenal of equipment and trained workers

I do agree. Doing work yourself= Much more rewarding. The ONLY mechanical stuff i don't do is engine machinework, because i don't have the equipment. But the guy that does it for me does it to my specification.
I agree that trimming the interior and paint needs to be done by a pro, but we did the velor head lining etc in my Mk1 and I challenge you to pick the difference between a pro job and mine.
Having things clean and fitting properly is the most important part of the VW Nationals scoring system..
If you ask me, Queen st have a big name and they do a good job, but i wouldn't say they do the best job for the money you pay.

My problem with the old jusdging criteria is that how many standard mk3s are there and who even cares??? Would you want to judge lots of standard Mk3????
The other problem is that if you have fitted different wheels and the car is otherwise stock, it is classed as modified and has to compete with cars like tommies on a playing field that just judges fit and finish. personally if i am looking at a lightly modded Mk2 and one with a crazy engine swop, the crazy one wins regardless of whether he has vacuumed the carpet or not.sigpic Camden GTI Performance. i wonder how the judge for modified aircooled?
we all know the system is based on cleanliness and presentation, after all it is a show and shine. If we want it to change, we have to attend club meetings and put forth and appropriate (well what we think is better) judging criteria!
I'd actually be interested to hear of some other judging criteria that could be used for the show (excluding peoples choice).
eg, wether a car's theme is consistant throught all it's modifications? Only problem is, as soon as you bring 'taste' into it, it becomes a personal choice for the judges.
(hope that all made sense, my brain is scattered from studying!)

I can understand that judging a show of this nature would be very difficult. In most circumstances, the judges are not comparing 'apples with apples' but more like 'apples with all the ingredients of a fruit salad'.
Personally, I just have a problem with so many of the cars that were at the Nats'. Owners drive them into a workshop, hand over vast amounts of cash and drive out the other side. Sure, the results are often wonderful, but anyone can do that.
It would be like Masterchef contestants buying Thai take-away and giving that to Matt Preston. Their dish might look the best, but the credit isn't theirs for the taking.
