Hoyhoy.
I'll be leaving Chinderah BP servo at 8.30am [just south of Tweed Heads].
Then going via Pacific Hwy, Logan Hwy, Ipswich Hwy, Warrego Hwy onto Brisbane Valley Hwy. If anyone wants to tag along anywhere along the way please let me know where & when. I can't give times for QLD. But may be someone else can as I'm a N.S.Welshman.
I'd like to cruize up with you. I'm at Robina, and would be happy to meet you at the BP opposite Dreamworld. What time do you think that you would be going past there?
what street is the town council building on?? just planning my trip now..
There really is only one "main" street in Esk. The council building is on the southern (I think) end across from the war memorial. It's actually where the Esk-Hampton road meets the main street of Esk. If you get stuck, ring me on 0411 109 457. There are 3 or 4 cars coming down with me from Toowoomba. We'll be getting there by about 10:30.
We'll wait till 11 before we leave (or sooner if everyone has arrived). During that time we can get to meet each other and lay down the very mild "ground rules". I'm not into too many rules for the drive tomorrow. They can be summarised in 2 I think.
1. Have lots of fun!
2. Don't do anything stupid that's likely to hurt you, or someone else.
Looking forward to the drive and meeting you all tomorrow.

Ok well things have changed for me. where do you think you'll be around 1.30 -2pm still at the pub.
By that time we'll likely be just leaving the pub (only soft drink for me) and heading down to the McDonalds on the highway near Gatton. That is the finish of the "official" course and folks will (after another bout of talking) make their way home from there. I hope we'll do another one of these closer to the north or south coast in another few months (a local can take the organizing lead on that one) , so there will be other opportunities for driving fun.

No worries mate. Your health is much more important than a drive. Obviously I don't need to tell you that diabetes is a "dog" of a condition that needs to be carefully monitored. You're fortunate that someone was with you or found you.
There will be photo's posted and they'll give you a feel of how things went.

Well it's all over now and I believe that a great time was had by all.
Congrats to those who finished the Mixed Grill!!!
The Final Count Was:
3 Mk5 GTI's, 1 Mk5 TDI, 1 Mk4 GTI, 1 Mk4 R32, 1 Mk1 GTI, 1 Polo GTI, 1 Mk1 LS Golf, 2 Mk3 GL Golfs, 1 Mk3 VR6, I Bora Turbo, 1 Corrado G60 and 1 Seat ibiza coura (He was most welcome even though it's not a VW )
In the end I lost count. I think there were about 22-23 people along for the ride.
Anyhow, here are some of the photo's. The group photo has some people missing who came along for the drive.
Yep! The very first one. Can only get better from here.
if that was your first one mate it can only get better!!! looks like a fantastic day
VW: it aint just a car, its a way of life There are few things more satisfying in life than finding a solution to a problem and implementing it

The 1st one was great and went through right till the end smooth sailing all the cars heldup well the heat and pedal on the floor at times had the oil temp in mine up to 135degrees and no a/c for me it was a bit hot, but i didn't hear any of the new mod boys complain.
Food was great even though i was the last to eat, i got it down pretty quick.
oh i did forget a few got a little carried away and missed the turn, all of which found their way to the food eventually.
We will have to start planning the next cruise soon and we can all be prebooked a few months ahead. As it was worth every bit, and if all turn up that did this time round with a few more that i'm sure we could find no worries. It would be a long line vw w/cooled on the h/way as i'm sure there were a few checking out the line of us today. makes me proud.
Now Days like today is what owning a vwwatercooled is all about.
Thanks all for a great day.
And of course thanks to Dr spine for the behind the scenes work, paid off in the end and it's set a standard for the next cruise.
