  • We took it pretty easy this time due to the road conditions and half the time we were behind slow traffic anyway. Yes, I have taken offense to comments regarding 'loosing' people made thus far.

Cruises don't build communities, meets do (i.e. the destination).

    • What is the point of a cruise then, if this guy couldn't keep up with you guys. If the whole point of the cruise is the destination and if he got lost because you were going a little too fast for him then how could he get to the destination?

I'm seriously not trying to offend you, I know you organise alot of this stuff for the QLD group of people (and you do a good job) and it would be pretty stressfull no doubt. I'm just relaying what I have experienced.

      • There's 20 plus cars on a mountain road, how am I to notice one was missing if I don't even know the person or the car (except that it's a MK3, of which there were record numbers in attendance)? No-one else noticed anyone missing either!

Yes I'm very tired, yes I'm very stressed!!

I can't answer the point of a cruise comment because the thought process goes round and round inside my head. If the point of a cruise is the destination to mingle with people, then why do we always drive so far? Because the regulars all enjoy a good drive, but this is what happens when new people come on theses types of cruises, they get lost because everyone else knows how everyone else drives on these cruises.

          • John you need a hug big guy?

People, relax, this stuff happens. I'm sure in the next cruise, some thought can be given to regular stops, and a follow up sweep would be a good idea as Trent has indicated. That way you can play if you want, or cruise, and catch back up at pre designated spots. The upside is the cruises will get better and better as a result, but if the Evolution cruise we passed going the other way is any indication, they play at a whole different level, and there were some huuuuuge gaps between them.

Apart from poor old migolf, I think we handled a lot of cars over a twisty mountain road on a Sunday very well.

I wasn't suggesting it should be you mate, last time I slowed down for someone who was pulled over, thinking that they might get left behind, only to be overtaken and then left behind myself. I don't think it can possibly be suggested that it's your responsibility to keep a headcount going(I'm sorry if my comment made it seem this way), I think the whole pack should go as slow (within reason) as the people at the back of the pack.

Maybe CB radios would be a help for the next cruise?

Don't worry there will be more. I saw plenty of cameras out and about. Meanwhile for some at home photos. Car is parked up for about an hour as I'm tired and sunburnt (please tell me I wasn't the only one who got burnt) and look what happens.

Luckily she didn't get the claws out (only did this once when I startled her and that made me cry) but still the naughty little bitch!
                Cheers,

spot on, as long as you can still see the guy behind you, you are good to go. if not, slow down and wait, then hopefully the people in front of you will be courteous enough to do the same thing. this way no one gets lost.

Room for the spade as well!

Oh yea, I got sunburnt too. Worst "drivers arm" I've had for a while

Oh and response to Gregs' fuel consumption conversation - I did 7.3L/100KM for the total trip

I got 11.6, but reckon that's because I pretty much coasted down the mountain on the way home.

Only used a third of a tank all day, will have to try harder next time.

                            • Hey guys,

Greetings from Evo Oz forum. We passed each other today on the way when you guys were heading down Glorious while we were heading up.

I am merely suggesting and not saying this is the way to organize a cruise but we have found if we have a set of CB radio for the leader and a person who knows the road fairly well at the end of the pack, it works out pretty well.

We also sort the pack starting with people who wants to go fast in the front and the people who wants to take it easy at the back.

Before starting the cruise I also prepare a Google map link for each leg of the journey so people know exactly what to expect from the trip and also if they get lost they at least will know where we will wait for them.

There are always going people who drive faster than some, so its inevitable that some get "lost". However, as long as they know the destination and know that we'll be waiting for them it works out quite well.

                              • This was how we organized todays cruise :

                                Alright guys,

Google Map link : Leg 1
7 am meet up time at the McDonald at 161 Dawson Parade Keperra. People can have something to eat, drink and I'd like to talk about what's going to happen on the cruise etc.

7.30 am we'll head out to Samford Village Caltex in case anyone needs to get some fuel or some bottle of water etc.

Google Map link : Leg 2
7.45 am we head out from Mount Samson Rd towards D'Aguilar which is 50 km of nice and easy mountain rd.

Google Map link : Leg 3
Then we turn left and head towards Kilcoy which is about 30 km of pretty straight long road.

Depending on road speed we should arrive at about 8.30 am - 9 am. Here we'll take a short pit stop for people that needs to go to the toilet or fuel up what not.

                                Google Map link: Leg 4
After the break, we'll go for the highlight of the day. Driving from Kilcoy to Mt.Glorious. This is about 75 km of good hard winding road and because we're going UP Mt.Glorious, shouldn't be much cars in our way. We'll make a stop at the Mt.Glorious Cafe shop and have something to eat/drink and use the toilet.

Google Map link : Leg 5
Last leg of the journey will take us down Mt.Nebo heading towards the Gap. This is about 30 km of pretty twisty mountain road. We'll make a stop at the BP outside Waterworks Rd for everyone to refuel for their journey home and talk **** and what not.

So basically, the whole journey looks a bit like this for the people that missed my post on page 2,

On a side note, does anyone have a set of hand held radio I could borrow on the day?
