Lovely bit of kit for sure but it's not just about the purchase price, it's costs a lot of money to run/use these sort of cars
The clutch is only good for 30k (if you are nice to it), it will cost around $8k to replace
Each rear tyre is $850~$1k depending on tyre brand/model chosen
You'll be nailed up to $2k for each service
Insurance, 2k~3k

And then there are the risks of using it - accident, coined, theft


Shouldn't talk about fuel consumption with a car like this but it can be as high as 20L per 100km - LOL

Haha. Whilst I agree with all of your points Martin, a $349,000 twin-turbo Lamborghini is never going to be a rational purchase.

My S3 returns 20-22L/100km when i'm liberal with my right foot, I dare say you'd be looking at more like 40L/100km on this.

The question is. Would you take this, or a second hand Huracan for ~$400k?

Nope - we recently priced insurance for a $300k Ferrari, 30 year old driver, it was only $2,250p.a.
I'm guessing the vast majority of these sorts of cars get very little usage and the claim rate is low
The actuaries will have factored all this into the policy & premium

That's half my house. I've largely made peace with the strong likelihood that I will never own anything like this

A Classic Porsche... that's a possibility (and a dream), I seriously looked at one before buying my Golf Cab... but it just wasn't really practical/smart to drive a 30 year old Porsche to the train station and park it there everyday

You leave the Porsche in the garage and cycle to the train station.

That's the beauty of having a Porsche - you never get to drive it but you can tell everyone you own one.
