I must say that I am cautiously moving forward with my unit. If it weren't for the calm and prompt responses from Sandy, I would have refunded my unit already. My deal breaker will be Mirror Link functionality with this unit. If AS does not pull through with this, I will working with Sandy to return my unit. This functionality was promised by AS/Sandy and I will expect it soon. I am still of the opinion that this should be provided to us, the early adopters, for free as it was in the spec we bought in to. Any word on this Sandy?

Up close the quality is awesome, I don't think its like one of those dodgy android tablets at all. the screen looks amaze-balls and the sound quality is very good, and the unit has enough power for whatever you need to do.

on another note, I had my DNS do something weird today for the first time, I'll give all the details. Had the car sitting in the sun all day, no visor(forgot :/), and it was a warm day in Adelaide(30 degrees). got in the car driving home no issues, went over a bumpy bit of road(not sure if this is related), and the unit cut out and went to the welcome to VW screen, and after 3-5secs went back to the radio screen, but had all the info missing from the buttons and the display area at the top, re-booted and no issues. then happened again 5 mins later pulling into drive way. could be heat related?!?! maybe, as the dash was Bleeding hot when I touched it, or a sudden change in temp being just under the air vent and I had the A/C cranked up.

Ill see if it happens again this week as its meant to hit 40 on Thursday(kill me now).

... It would be interesting to hear from the many with the pre-release units, who are quite happy and haven't posted anything. I guess that if they are satisfied with their units, they have probably moved on from this forum anyhow.

There is no "from the many". Only 14 units were delivered in the pre-production in this GB & most have commented.

I had a few white screens today while running the GPS. Again, car was out in sun today so might be a heat thing. Radio runs fine, however as soon as I load GPS and it runs for a couple of mins it white screen (the slow fade to white).

This thread is full of 60 pages of crap right now... Can we not just settle down for a little bit until either the full production is released or the next firmware is installed? So much hypothesising and what not going on. I know weve all been patient but nothing will change until the next update

I'm thinking I need to start a thread over in the Audio / Electronics section to move the firmware / bug related discussions over there.

In any case, I've been informed that the mirrorlink module is now available. In its current form you cannot control it via the unit screen, but it is compatible with iPhones. The price is $55 and if you have a Samsung it will be $5 for a special cable. You must have an MHL-compatible phone, as before.

I can't really offer the mirrorlink module for free, and I did notify everyone of this long before the order date. I will offer everyone in the group buy $10 off the module though, which puts it at cost price, as I have indicated previously.

This should be an issue related to the CAN-Bus problem that should have been fixed - are you running the latest firmware with MPU 131129 and MCU 20131202?

Will it work a android unit via the screen or no? Any plans for it to without having a hardware upgrade ? I'm interested if so, and would need the Samsung cable

yep, just went to check and running those. hoping its not a heat thing, guess I'll report back depending on if/when it happens again and the circumstances.

I may have missed something here but I did not think iPhones were MHL compatible so how can the module be compatible with iPhones? Is it planned that the Mirrorlink module will in the future be able to let the DNS unit control the phone?

Thought i'd use the sat nav to find my way to work this morning.
Worked well, found my destination and it said have you reached your destination?
I press yes and press the sat nav power button that popped up on the screen.

The VW boot up screen comes on in reverse and slowly dims to the white screen of death.

That's what mine did too, minus it wasn't the VW logo on mime iit was just the navigation boot screen reversed & whited out. Frozen and needed a power cycle.

Updated the unit a few days ago and the unit still loses steering wheel
Controls. I have the lates firmware now
Don't get why I keep losing them. Then the unit gets slow and i have to pull the fuse.

I have lost about 50% volume in SD playback, did a factory reset and no change, this happened out of the blue as well. At 40max volume. I'm at about 20 on the FM side. And there is a ton of feedback in the playback now, buzzing from the alternator, like a bad ground
