Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Suggestions: DIY area and ability for the OP to edit thread title

    Hi VWWC Admins,

Have you considered adding functionality to allow the following:

    1) DIY area. This would need to be filtered for Mk1, Mk2, Mk3 etc etc otherwise it will just be a mess of stuff for new cars and old cars and everything in between. I have several comprehensive DIY's that ive written up with images etc, but have no where on here to post them. I have them on a different forum, so i have to link people there each time i reference them. Im sure other members on here have DIY's that they would like to share.

    2) Ability to edit a thread title after it has been created. This can be done on other forums i use and can be very handy (spelling mistakes / make the title more suited etc etc). I have found this frustrating on several occasions on VWWC. Another forum i use (where you can edit the thread title) seems to have the same structure as this forum, so it would appear that it would be possible on this platform?

Hold up Mr Lova, it seems i CAN infact now edit a thread title. Yippee. When was that done?

So that just leaves the DIY section/area? Any ideas on that?

I take that ^ back. Below is an example of what i mean.

I'd like to edit the title of my build thread. I've edited my 1st post, gone into "Advanced" and changed the thread title, but it only changes the sub title. The actual thread title remains unchanged.

Unfortunately that's just the way it goes (and strangely) if I (as an Admin) use that same advanced hit box it does chance the Title (and not just the sub title). In any case if you run into problems just use the report post button or PM me with a link to the thread in question and I can fix it up for you.

As for a DIY area, the right place to post threads is in the Mk1/2/3/4/5/6 sections (or the Audio section) as appropriate to the model you are working on. In many of those section the mods who run them have created a DIY index which you could PM them about if you have written up something you want added. I have written up a bunch of DIY walkthroughs for the various little projects I have done in the Mk3 and Mk6 sections which seem to come back to life form time to time. Hopefully people find these things by searching, but the indexes are nice to have).
        (like this one: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...ead-42164.html )
If someone want to step up to create a DIY index for the Mk6 section... well that can only be a good thing.

I'm trying to not end up like some other forums (*cough* vortex *cough*) where stuff is all over the place and things could logically fit into 25 different sections equally well.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

I have this exact same issue, is there a way of selecting which title it changes??

Thanks for the offer Ryan but my DIY's are setup to be embedded into a forum page rather than setup as a PDF document.
