  • Solitaire - Adelaide VW/Skoda

Took my car in for the diesel recall fix etc at Solitaire in Adelaide

They said as 'compensation' or something that VW Australia would do a wash / valet on the car.

They did a pretty terrible job - have to take it to get cleaned properly today.

Disappointed at the whole diesel thing :/

If its a VW Duttons at Mt Barker are pretty good.

And they give you a wash with the service as part of checking the bodywork for damage...

I don't allow the dealer to wash my car; I'd much prefer to do it myself and live without the swirl marks and scratches!

        Agree with that.

...and as per the recall, I just ignore it, I like my TDIs as they are.

So today I had a letter from Solitaire Service announcing that they will no longer be a Skoda dealer from 31 October 2017. Does anyone know anything about this? Like where to get warranty work done in the future in Adelaide?

            Wow that's a bit of a bombshell!!!

I would have thought that they would still be able to service them but you're probably right warranty work would probably have to go through Jarvis now.

The letter states that they are happy to service but can't do warranty work. And yes, bit of a surprise!

One of the salesguys is on the facebook page. In essence, they were going to move Skoda to a new city site. VWA wanted them to put teh service centre there, and they said no as they had the nice big one already where they do all servicing. VWA said no, so they lost their franchise including the abilty to act as an authorised service centre so can't do warranty work either.....

Yeah with the new SUV models they were going to outgrow the little corner they occupied at Medindie and really needed a bigger showroom/yard. It is a bit surprising how they are able to service all the other makes/models at Mile End, however for Skoda they needed to have an all-in-one dealership and service centre. It's a model that clearly works.

Does this mean they have lost their sales franchise as well?

Yes sales and “authorised factory” service are going according to reports. Which means they can still do your service like any other independent workshop but can’t do any warranty work or sell any new cars after a c train date (not exactly sure when that is).

Bit annoyed at this, Mile End was a good location. Cbd location will mean customer will be paying for the extra rental costs.

Not if there's fixed price servicing. Then the dealer will just be paying higher rent for the worshop and will have no way to recover the higher costs. The only way to make the money back is employ cheaper labour...

If Skoda have not arranged an alternative Adelaide based sales point to replace Solitaire in the very near future then that will probably leave a bit of a hole in local sales figures until sorted.
I can understand Solitaire not wanting to set up an independent Skoda sales/service unit, after all Audi, Skoda and VW are pretty similar under the skin and mechanics can probably apply their skills to all three brands at the relatively new Mile End centre, but the old Medindie sales site was woefully inadequate as they were pretty much tripping over each other. Parking and entry/exiting the site onto the highway was unnecessarily dangerous too.

I suspect that Solitaire will no longer service Skodas at the set prices which were well below equivalent VW Golf when I last looked.
The one failing of Solitaire was that on two occasions they tried to charge me at the higher Golf service price.

Mine is just out of warranty so I'll probably be going independent but not Solitaire independent in future.
