Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I've learnt so much from others on this forum that are specific to the many mods. done on my current and prior VW. Thank you very much to those members.

For this reason I feel I 'owe it' to share what I have learnt along the way which is what I sometimes try to do. You need to be 'thick skinned' on this forum and ignore the fact you sometimes do not get any thanks and sometimes you just get smart arse and dumb replies from posters who probably never help anyone.

I've found the vast majority of members to be polite and well meaning. Much more so than most other forums.
I've learnt a lot from other members.
Have met quite a few over the years to assist with coding, retrofit etc and have not met one yet that wasn't cool.
I also prefer the forum structure to the free-form nature of facebook.
I'm on here multiple times a day and try to assist where I can or point people to those much more knowledgeable and skilled than me.
If anyone is being difficult report them to a mod. Moderators don't read every post.

Whoa... this thread is beginning to read like a long list of eulogies. Hey, did we get foreclosed by the bank?

Sometimes I wish I bought a Polo just to still be in the VW family, but my Focus was built in Germany so that's good enough for me.
I guess I have settled down with this car, I did a few small mods here and there but nothing major. Of course, this is a VW forum so it wasn't shared.
I enjoyed my time here and learnt a lot.

As Greg said, a lot of the regulars moved on to other brands (Audi, Merc etc).

I was a bit of a stirrer in the past but posted up a few helpful bits now and then. I keep in touch with some of the tuners and some of the old regulars.

We moved to an S3 sedan late last year and I still throw up the odd post and pic in the Audi section but I'm finding less inclination to tune/modify the Audi than I did with the R.

The R ended up with a modest tune, some hardware (running gear, engine) and cosmetic stuff but I just don't have the same need/want to do that with the Audi.

There were and still are some great people on this forum. Lucas_R was fantastic help with builds etc and finding stuff. Greg was just brilliant in terms of support via messages etc. So many good people.

I still think the last good Golf was the MKVI. I guess dieselgate tarnished the name for many to some degree.

I spend much more time on the UK forums these days - wider audience and wider market for info.

I used to be on here to argue with Rocket, then he left? But now he's back. I have more VW's than ever but it's just kind of different?
VW Australia continue to suck too, so maybe that has put me off.

You certainly provided the "fuel" for those discussions!

                          By the way, welcome back.
