I've got my house on the market and I've purchased a new one in Queensland.
Here is my dilemma. My rego is due 21/September The green slip is $503.70
But in Queensland it's only $329.60. I don't pay the rego fee as I'm a pensioner
The house in qld is due for settlement in early October So I would loose most of my green slip costs
Unless I can transfer it to Qld ?
Or should I ring my green slip provider and see if I can some how just pay 3 months. ?

If you come to Queensland to live you have 14 days from registering a garaging address to change rego over to QLD and 3 months for your licence.

A 4 cyl car costs $670.00 to register including compulsory CTP insurance
With pensioner discount it is $519.10 PRE JULY when it went up I think about 3.5%

You only get 50% discount on the REGO of ONE vehicle per pensioner couple in QLD. The two figures above are what we paid on our 2 Vw's last year
So if you have 2 cars and a van is only on one car and full cost on the other two. Guaranteed

Cost breakdown CTP $329.60 Rego $289.85 Traffic improvement fee $50.55 Total $670.00

Other one Pensioner discount CTP $323.60 Rego $289.85 Less discount $144.90 Traffic fee 50.55 Total $519.10

That is from my two invoices from Jan and June this year

Read the words you WONT get free rego in the Sunshine state and if you dont change rego over to QLD after 14 days your car is unregistered and uninsured if they pick you up on the numberplate identifier. Fines arent worth trying a swifty

Up to 14kph over the limit is $153 and 1 point here.

Unreg is more than the cost of doing it

I'll explain it a bit better Once you buy a house and its where you live and have utilities and insurance etc and dont retain a house in another state the above applies. Some think its funny to use a friends address in Vic or somewhere for vehicle reg. Will be fine till you get rearended by a normal QLD tailgater and you have to give your address and then its not so funny.

Probably that went up in July as well You can get done for about 3 k over here Watch the cameras on the north side of the bridge at Smith St flyover on the Gold Coast and the same at Daisy Hill Gets thousands a day that one

Surely you get a refund if you transfer registered from one state to another... Ring the RTA?

If as a pensioner you dont pay rego how can you get a refund

No. I was talking about the green slip
I might only have the car registered for one

Put in a mail redirect via AustPost, your renewal letter will arrive in QLD, pay it and you are still registered in NSW.

I know of a few people with VIC plates, technically they still live with Mum in Ballarat but work in Brisbane own houses kids go to Brisbane schools etc.

Maybe you are just on a holiday in QLD !
How do the grey nomads manage it ? VIC plates on their motor home but have been north of Tweed Heads for years.

I explained the rules earlier If you want to try to beat it fine If you get caught dont cry.

If you have an accident and get asked for your details and you give a QLD address and your car is registered out of state you arent registered or insured.

Its all good until it isnt. A grey nomad that still has a legal garaging address in another state is Ok its the ones who get it sent to mothers cousins brother that will run into trouble. Even the rental cars got hauled up as they all used to be rego'd in VIC and live in other states. Now they have to be rego'd in the state they live in.

Why do people always have to try to beat the system.
Seems a lot are descended from convicts and do their best to end up like ancestors

Just that espousing illegalities especially by a Moderator is not a good look.

I do agree with your comment about the government though and would include banks as well.
