Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Free Service

I just received a phone call from VW Customer care offering me a free second year service, at first I found it a bit hard to believe that VW was actually giving me a free service
But a quick call back to VW confirmed that indeed it was legit ,they will send a service personnel who will check that the service was carried out exactly by the dealer. And to the book.

This is a bit random ... any reason for this ?

They are checking that all the dealers are giving the full service to all their customers, they will check the vehicle when the service is carried out
They say it to check on the quality of the service and the dealer staff

Sounds like you are being used as a QC test or they have 15 apprentices who are going to pull your car apart and put it back together.

Just look for the disclaimer, (service is free of charge and absolves VWA of any damage caused or problems arising from trainee technicians failing to replace parts properly, or destroying first gear doing mad burnouts....)

No woofy. The car is being serviced at VW. Service centre ,they will not know that the car is being checked for quality servicing
I rang back to check the offer. And it was all above board.

Sweet! Make sure there's engine oil before you drive away

Always in for a freebie, good stuff.

They are even picking up the car from my house and dropping it back after it's been serviced, I'll have to make sure it's all spic and span.

I lolled at this comment because it reminded me of a friend of mine who insisted on servicing his own trail bike. Took the damn thing apart, did the service and put it all together. Except he had a few extra bolts. Couldn't figure where they were from, but the bike still went fine.

From my experience with VW service, they cant do a decent job when you are paying their over-inflated prices.....let alone when they are doing it for free.

Thanks but no thanks would be my response if they had called me.

They are getting paid the same as if I was paying them , this is a kind of undercover Operation by VW. Head office to check that the dealers are doing the service correctly.

Secret customer sort of deal, wish I could get a free service. Now will it include all work or just the standard items ?

It's the 30,000 or 2 year full service as in the service book

I am more than impressed with the way they are testing the dealerships
As they are installing 6 fault items into the car. , blown bulbs. Low tyre pressure on one wheel and disconnected sensor.

                            Free Service

Maybe head office are doing this because of my experience at VW South Yarra:

From my thread titled: 6R GTI misfiring

When I took it to my independent mechanic in June for a service after VW South Yarra took over 2 months to fix a misfire he discovered HEAPS of loose bolts and missing nuts, a massive exhaust leak, loads of oil under the sump and in the intake, misaligned suspension and cradle, and the suspension was cable tied to the brake lines - and had already pulled one out of its clip.

You may get the car back with 16 faults !!!!

Just taking the piss ..... I am sure your car will come back fine.
