I don't think anyone will get any kind of payout. I think we'll get the fix that makes our car compliant with legislation and that will be it. Anything else will be subject to legal action.

We are certainly going to need to read the fine print before signing for it.

The same engine placed longitudinally is fine as they did install the adblue post processing system.

Hence why the Multivan is fine, and the Golf isn't.
The Transporter/Multivan/Caravelle has AdBlue? Not that I was aware of? Happy to be shown otherwise but I don't recall seeing it on any of the services in 5 years.

I wonder the same thing myself. Plenty of examples of VW having different models of the same thing.... like the 6sp manual gear boxes in the Golf range (at least two variants in Australia (at least three that I know of including the OS markets).

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Maurice Blackburn, I suspect have factored that in.

I was just making a point when someone with extras intimated they should for instance get paid for tinting. Dream on.

We will have to fight for almost anything above what VW thinks they can get away with I would think.

I wasn't questioning your post per se, just outlining how I think it will play out: which is pure speculation in any case.

What I don't understand is why anyone thinks they will get anything other than a fix of the problem - this is not some opportunity to make money? The resale issue, which some seem to be concerned about, is a short term hit based on sentiment. Eventually the economic equilibrium will prevail, and the value of Volkswagen cars will find their natural place in the secondhand marketplace. With respect to whether the remedy (whatever it will be) reduces the driving enjoyment, performance, economy or any other factor of their car is a personal issue and something that people will need to consider going forward, either by selling the car and possibly taking a hit to distance themselves from the brand or through some legal redress to seek compensation.

                I am a bit confused I thought the Golf and the Transporter Multivan engines were all the same orientation ie east west as most fwd's are {except the diabolical MB100}

That's a north-south installation - so does that use adblue?

                      Lmao
There's certainly a hole for fuel and definitely a hole for exhaust. Not sure where you'd put the adblue.
Maybe run a line into the exhaust?

Earlier in this thread,[#2] I inserted my VIN No. in the link provided by VW saying our Tiguan wasn't affected. Today I received a letter from VW saying our VW is affected. I rang VW in response to their letter & was told, after I gave the guy my VIN No., that it is affected.
Now here's the point. While 'is affected by software that causes discrepancies in the values for oxides of nitrogen [NOx] during laboratory testing", the emissions of our car complies with the current standards in Aust. & the recall is a voluntary one. He also said that there are diesel vehicles sold in Aust. [from other manufacturers] with higher emissions than those from VW engines.
I suggested to him that it's time for VW to be proactive & to tell it as it is rather than let the Media & some on here carry on with all the hype.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

Others with "higher emissions than those from VW engines"?
Like for like? or are they referring to trucks?
I probably won't have my EGR valve's life expectancy reduced by submitting to their 'fix' unless I'm intending to trade out.....someone else can deal with the consequences......we all know VW haven't any confidence in their diesel ancillaries long term.
It wouldn't be such an issue if the EGR was accessible and serviceable but I object to putting $5000 aside for when it fails, as it will under the new requirement.

There's a small article in todays Advertiser [main daily in Adelaide] that says the government has allowed Holden to have an extension in time to comply for some models that will not comply with EURO 5 that will be introduced in Aust. in November '16.

Mine failed at 100,000kms left me dead with battery light on, stranded as it got stuck open. Cost $2700 from memory but extended warranty covered the cost

So what's this talk on this blog about any recall being voluntary and vehicle meeting the then current EURO 4 standard. If this was the case, just remove the default software for AUST market only for those vehicles built whilst we had Euro 4.

Seems to me this will run on for some time unless ACCC hit them harder than currently. Aust will lag as usual.A friend with a Q5 was told fix by November.............maybe 2016?

Not Euro 4, but Euro 5 that is the issue.
