Or do what I have done pull out the crappy VW head unit and replace it with another one , now I know there are haters on this Forum who don,t like what I do sometimes but bare with me . Ok lets look at the VW head units if you want the bells and whistles then expect a $3k plus bill , and as some have reported finding the GPS software either 3 or more years older and can cost an arm and a leg to upgrade , Now I have been buying for our VW's head units from China , to the untrained eye you cannot pick them from the original maybe except for one big difference most have a larger screen than VW's ! . Next they do not need any stupid VW coding for extras ie bluetooth is standard GPS is standard and in most cases the very latest version , you even get the VW logo on start up . Steering wheel controls work forward recording camera connects reverse camera with tracking lines Apps with Wifi and Mobile phone mirroing DAB radio AM FM and Digital TV plays DVDs and a variety of other formats SD slots for extra options and USB inputs on the rear via extension cables if needed . Ok how much well less than $450 , here is where the haters jump up and down . Oh its Chinese S**t wont last long , well ok maybe but I have worked out his scenario even if the Chinese one broke down after only 1 year at $450 a pop I can replace it with the very latest model for at least the next 6 years and still be in front of the cost of ONE VW unit . Please no nasty replies this is a public forum and I can have my own opinion .

It's a specific issue with a specific head unit.
The alternatives have been addressed in many other threads and there is a range available from cheap and cheerful to premium. Like with anything in life.

I have a similar issue with our Tiguan where the head unit resets occasionally and starts asking for the navigation DVD. Be nice to be able to get this sorted.

Does a reboot fix it when that happens?

When the unit resets itself it’s fine for another few weeks.
