Hi everyone! We are researchers from UNSW currently conducting a study on Pattern of Use of Voice Control Interfaces by Drivers in Australia. If you do/do not use voice control in your smartphone or in-vehicle voice control system, you are invited to participate in this study by clicking on the link provided below. Participation in this survey is voluntary and all information will be kept anonymous and confidential. If you would like to continue supporting our research, please redistribute the link to your family members, colleagues and friends. Your help is very much appreciate. Thanks a lot! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Distracted driving: who uses voice control devices, when and why? Operating a mobile phone while driving has been found to be distracting, yet in NSW, since January 2014, on average, 1000 fines have been issued each day to drivers who use hand-held mobile phones while driving. Voice control interfaces such as in-vehicle voice control (e.g. Ford SYNC, Toyota Entune) and smartphone voice control capabilities (e.g. Siri in the iPhone, S Voice in Samsung phones, Cortana in Windows phones) have the potential to reduce distraction and improve driving performance. However, little is known about which drivers use these interfaces and how they interact with them. This online survey attempts to understand drivers’ interactions with voice control devices and their possible (positive or negative) impacts on safety. First we need to know about who uses voice control interfaces while driving, what they are used for, and how often they are used. You can access the online survey at THE PATTERN OF USE OF VOICE CONTROL INTERFACES BY DRIVERS IN AUSTRALIA For further queries, contact Nurul Ikhmar Ibrahim at n.ibrahim@student.unsw.edu.au or Dr Carlo Caponecchia at carloc@unsw.edu.au or 02 93857184. |

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Done!
I find the ability to send and receive texts while driving without taking my eyes off the road very useful and if more cars had it I think people would avoid manually using their phone and therefore making them safer drivers. There will always be people who insist on manually using their phones while driving and by including a voice system the risk can be reduced by keeping their eyes on the road.Past - '95 VW Golf MK3 VR6
Present - '11 Ford Focus LW Diesel (PSA DW10C)
