Pros and cons of buying from an interstate stealership....

Hi all,

Any constructive advice appreciated. Perth is limited as far as Audi dealerships and I want an S3.....
Dealer I had the test drive with spoke about extra tax when buying interstate and having to change over etc - sounds false to me... But I actually have no idea.
Other issues I guess fall with being unable to inspect the car before accepting it.....

So far, I test drove the S3 last Saturday, really want it with the PP but not sure about the seats - had emails and calls every day from the sales guy I dealt with and also his 'boss'... Firstly telling me I needed to order by COB today (which I didn't lol)... Pressure makes me want to shop else where so wondering about the implications...
Keeping in mind if I can get it for 67-68k as I want then I will stick with the WA dealer.

Oh, other option was mk 7 GTI and the guys there are totally different in their sales approach and If I didn't test drive the S3 then I would have bought it but I think, I would be saying to myself, WHY DIDNT YOU GET THE S3??

Couple of things ....

I have bought new interstate before and the interstate dealers were really helpful. In 1 instance the car was even registered in QLD for me from an ACT dealer under an arrangement they have with a QLD dealer. So can be done and probably less expensive than what you think.

Also, if you like the Mk7 GTI, why not wait 3 months and get a new MK7 R? Mechanically identical to the S3 and at least $10K cheaper .....

Depending on what's about at the time it helps.

When I bought my Pirelli there were 2 Executive Demos, 1 in QLD (3500kms & $53K) and 1 in NSW (1500kms & $46K). Both had identical kit and the NSW dealer shipped it to my work's front door step for $600. Yes I had to deal with transfer but I still saved thousands.

If you're buying brand new it's much easier as you don't have to worry about cancelling rego in one state.

We have similar issue here in Adelaide where the local dealers act as if they have a captive market. I would at least be keeping them honest by getting pricing from interstate dealers.

Yes the golf R is def something That I have always wanted but my heart is ruling on this in many ways. R may be mechanically the same (and yep it's the engine I am buying for) but the Audi has kinda stolen my heart... But the fact there is one Audi dealership hasn't!

I've bought both my current cars interstate.

The van was purchased new out of Bayford VW who were very helpful in getting the right permits so I could drive it back to NSW...

Blue slip in NSW was easy enough being a brand new car but I then had to pay the stamp duty too, something I completely forgot about. I was pretty happy with my deal... although having to add a couple of grand in stamp duty to the equation wasn't really nice. Normally when you get a new car it "drive away, no more to pay (inc dealer delivery and government charges etc etc).

The Cabriolet I got out of ACT and they were able to register it in NSW for me so it was all included in the agreed price.

Of course if you are purchasing a used vehicle it doesn't matter so much since you're up for stamp duty on transfer anyway regardless of what state you get it from.

Placed my order with the local Audi dealership... Couldn't help myself at the end of the day. Figure it will be best to have some sort of relationship with them (vs buying else where) to play it safe.
