Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

7 speed dry clutch is the one with the most issues. 6 speed dsg doesn't have anywhere close to the number of complaints for the 7 speed dsg. Recall was for the 7 speed in the other countries so this one most likely is too.

      • Sadly that is what I am lead to believe from The Age reporter, but lets wait and see what letters and communications get sent out.

If you or others have a problem with your transmission, just go and see your dealer about it. Why there should be a recall anytime someone has a problem with the car? In some cases, it even doesn't have to be the cars fault? Go and see your dealer, it's simple like that.

I don't see many Audi owners complaining about the same DSG and other faults, the price of the car must have something to do with it.

For sure if it was that bad with the DSG in the cars, the german VW owners would complain too, giving the fact that it is the one of the smarter countries where the system would be more efficient and the problem picked up sooner than somewhere else.

          • Well my 2010-11 Polo (bought Nov 2010) just broke down again on Sunday night and is currently at the VW Service Centre (Barloworld Mascot). They told me yesterday they don't know when they can look at it as it's in the queue of cars to be looked at. I wonder how this recall announcement will affect my car since it's already currently broken and in their possession

I think you left a few failures out. I concede that it's a very long list.

It's very much a case of "same *****e, different shovel". If they want to chuck me out then I'll take that nice retrenchment package thanks, if they want to keep me then I'll continue to work through the pile of crap on my desk & the never ending stream of emails.

I don't think you can look at a lack of a recall as a sign of anything right now as vw wasn't planning to do any in Australia before this week. Unless you monitor German forums how would you know they aren't complaining as well? Do Germans buy more manuals or dq200 dsg?

The volume of Audi owners who might be able to complain is quite limited as most of their lineup does not use the dq200. The A1 uses te same one as found in this thread. Some A3 vehicles as well. That's about it. Price has nothing to do with it. Singapore forums for the A1 show owners being affected and complaining about the dq200.

                • okie dokie so I finally finished an hour long talk with VWA and here it goes:

All mechatronics units on listed calls "will be replaced" due to thermal corosion of the control circuit unit which has contributed to "a loss of power" to the vehicle.

Clutches and gearbox will be "physically" inspected as well as stress tested to ensure they are in top condition, if not dealer is instructed to replace immediately with new software to be added to entire unit.

A letter will be issued to everyone who is affected Early July as Wolfsburg is currently producing and organising shipment of 26,000 Mechatronics units, as well as redudancy gearbox / clutch packs should failure be detected.

Dealers have been informed to increase the amount of service / loan vehicles they have whilst customers vehicles are being repaired.

yep, all well and good but I am certain that even 'fixed' cars that fall outside that manufacturing period have had entire gearboxes require replacing due to problems still with the DQ200.

This is just a stunt and just wait for cars that put kms on the clock to start having exactly the same issues in another 30,000kms. If they were serious, why ahve Audi and Skoda not also been included?

As I have said before, the only true fix is to replace every DQ200 with a DQ250 and all associated electronic and mechanical components that go with it. Yes it will cost an absolute fortune and be a logistical nightmare, but that's the point. 26,000 mech units at cost (dealers are apparently paying ~$4200) is still only at dealer cost $10,920,000 but based on the fact one can buy a brand new, Genuine VW mechatronics unit in europe for $2100 from a retailer (so not even true cost price for VAG) i'd say that it's probably going to be costing them in the region of $1,500,000 to $3,000,000 in AUD. For a company that posted a E22,000,000,000 (AU$31,002,224,000) profit last financial year, you really think they care.....? In 3 months, everyone will have forgotten all of this.

PR 101 to admit u have and issue and are taking action. Otherwise their reputation will take a serious hit...
Hi OB, I had two injectors die and an injector loom replaced shortly thereafter in a 103PD (BKD), do you know whether that was covered by the service campaign?

You think a recall of nearly 26000 vehicles is just a stunt? There's no pleasing some people.

I'm not expert, but I'd be surprised if this is even technically possible. Does anyone know for sure?

Of course it's a stunt. Vehicles delivered post September 2011 have also had the same afflicting issues of burnt out clutches and dodgy mechatronic units so how is replacing a part an some software going to fix a problem that is still ongoing.

Yes it is possible, the mk5 golf GT ran the 1.4 TSI motor with the dq250 6spd wet clutch dsg. As I said it would be logistical nightmare but what is the point of recalling vehicles that 2 weeks ago weren't affected yet now are, to just have the same things happen in 2 years down the track? That's the point I am making. The design on the dq200 is flawed and just continually throwing clutches and mechatronics units at affected vehicles under warranty doesn't constitute a fix. What will customers do that are already out of warranty?
