Otherwise, please feel free to ask me any questions here.
Thanks for providing honest and unbiased feedback, nice to read

Enjoyed it so much you had to mention it again eh?

Repetition seems to be the point of this thread.

You seem particularly proud of your efforts.
I'm certainly impressed. I'm glad you felt the need to mention your feat twice, I may have missed the first mention.

No pride at all but I value your sarcasm

I was surprised on what is a drivers road (the Galston) that the drivers car fell back so quickly

          • 14.9 seconds for the 1/4 mile is almost as fast as a Manual Trans Golf R!

            • WJ,

I don't know how the 1/4 mile figures are derived but having been to a VW Drag day and seeing the Golf R on the strip, 15 second quarter would be an embarrassment.

Admittedly this R had a tune and DSG but a sub 13 second run is pretty standard. There were Stock GTIs doing sub 14s..

If the comparison to a GTI was confusing the introduction of the R moreso.

I saw an old Magna do a 14.9 at the drags a few weeks ago. So what?? Educate yourself bud http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...mes-20920.html

                • No don't lock it..

WJ is entitled to muse... whether or not it makes sense or is accurate is entirely irrelevant

My pleasure. I've obtained useful information from this forum in the past (when test driving MkV GTI's and R32's back in the day as well as other times like finding a detailer, etc.). So I know this place has genuine readers/contributors as well as the usual unfortunate confirmation-bias riddled lot (the tragedy of the commons). No difference anywhere, really, particularly the forum I've been attending. Anyway, that's why I bothered to stick my nose above the waterline. So thanks for at least giving me the calming satisfaction of one positive response.

Thanks for condescendingly implying I'm suspect to some kind of bias. But that's OK... I think I can take it. FWIW, I assure you not everyone is that immature. Some of us have test driven many cars at many price points and have more important things to crow about than the car we drive. Some of us participate in forums for reasons other than making ourselves feel good over our purchasing decisions. Rather, it's because we believe there is a benefit to mankind in the activity of real customers sharing information and thereby overcoming the evil that is the lies of marketing departments. This, in turn, is the way to improve the real design of all things and our overall experience of life.

So again, if anyone at any time has any genuine questions, please feel free to ask publicly or privately (here or over on my other thread). Only trying to help. I'll be in my corner if you need me (edit: actually, I may well be on putty rd).

There was nothing condascending, it was a statement of fact. You decided to twist it and then personally attack.

WJ has done so much more to contribute to this thread than yourself and in a pleasant way. Admittedly, ad nauseum but still, informative.

Oh please, stretching just a tad are we

I hope the thread stays open, it is turning up all sorts of gems.

Edit - as for agotatsuya's replies, haha, you might want to see his other posts. Stalker comes to mind

In the defence of WJ, the R, purely from a "drivers car" standpoint is less of a match to the 86/BRX than the GTI.

He obviously kept up with you for a while, if you were able to see the expressions on his face.

Anyway, you're surprised that your considerably modified R was able to pull away from a (presumably) stock 86 ?

                                Mine isn't modified.

                                I overtook him (downhill).

On that particular road, it's all about the "drivers car".
