Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Volkswagen Driving Experience 2012

    I was just browsing the Volkswagen website (as you do) when I noticed there is a link for the 2012 Volkswagen Driving Experience 2012:

    Volkswagen Driving Experience - Volkswagen Australia

    Just in case anyone is interested

    If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

    I'll register but if it isn't free then i won't be doing it yet again.

    Rediculous that they try to charge so much for these events.

      yep... love the statement after you register.... "we will be in touch soon"
      hopefully not like they were "in touch" about the release of the newest passat. Didn't hear a thing from them until several weeks after it was in the show rooms... then i get an email telling me its in the showrooms.... lol

        The funny thing about new car releases, half the time there is better information on the forums than there is in the dealership

          Thanks Hawk

          I can just say I did the course this year. I paid. Was it worth it? Hell yes...

          Being on the older side of 55 and a long time member of the motorcycle community (which strongly encourages rider training) I can say with confidence that paying for any of these courses (for a bike or car) is far more beneficial and effective in pointing out what you don't know you do wrong than a couple of meals with mates at a restaurant (which would probably set you back as much as what was asked of us to pay here). Consider the costs: the instructors were tremendously experienced professional drivers, the course was exceptionally well organised and run and don't forget the 15 or so Golfs that were provided for us to absolutely thrash.

          Bring on 2012 (which we were told might well be full day rather than half day courses held this year).
          Can't wait

              When it was free it was a good idea.
              There really is no driver training in the course that is any more than driving around the roads.

              If i cna do happy laps for $30 including food then VW should be able to set this up for under $100 for the day (if not free).

                  If they are still charging over $100 for it then I am keeping my money and not bothering.

                  Hyperlink is as follows:

                  Email has the $100 off voucher.

                  Insights = $200
                  The Volkswagen Driving Experience Insights course is for those drivers wishing to take their basic motoring skills to the next level. This program teaches the fundamentals of safe motoring and aims to improve driving skills and give participants greater confidence on the road.

                  Progression = $250
                  The Volkswagen Driving Experience Progression course was developed with the more experienced driver in mind. It is an ideal program for participants looking to gain a thorough understanding of vehicle dynamics and technology as well as an opportunity to showcase their new driving skills during an exhilarating circuit lapping session.

                  Evolution = $350
                  The Volkswagen Driving Experience Evolution course is for drivers who have completed the Progression course, or have a similar level of proficiency. It is designed to elevate a driver’s skills from reactionary to proactive by building on previous driver training. The ultimate goal is to put these skills into practice during a circuit lapping session, with some of the highest performance Volkswagen vehicles, including the new Scirocco R and Golf R.

                    fair enough Clay - understand your point.

                    I suppose I look at it from the economic standpoint though - it is cheaper to trash their cars (especially a Golf R and Rocco R) on the track compared to what it would cost me to do it in mine - new oil/filter change, tyres, general wear and tear, petrol etc). Plus I might learn a new thing or two to apply at the track....

                      For thrashing it isn't bad but the track is so short at Norwell that you basically can't get it over 160km/h and there is no elevation changes.
                      I can do that at Happy Laps for $25 with elevation changes so it's a no for me.

                      They loaded up the R/GTI for the laps with passengers as well the last times these were held so it ends up weighing about 350kg more than standard.

                      Other states (i.e. non QLD) might be better set out though.

                      NB. If you are a potential buyer these are a pretty good way to work out what the car can do when pushed towards the limits.

                        I just booked mine for Sydney and used the discount code in the email i got.

                        I have a mate who doesn't own a VW that is interested in coming along. Anyone know if you can reuse the discount codes? If not, anyone who has one that isn't planning on using it care to PM their code (if all the codes are unique)?
