If it's a proper driver training course, as opposed to the come and try our range days that the previous ones were, then that is a reasonable price for a course where you're driving their cars.

Just booked in to the Evolution Course in Brisbane on Saturday 2 June. Hopefully see some of you out there for it. I think the intermediate course is the same morning, so no doubt there's a shared lunch in between.

Nothing wrong with the Norwell circuit. I'm yet to see a track where you can't go quick enough to get into trouble, it's just that the speed at which it happens might be different. I fondly remember as a kid being a passenger at Norwell with Cam McConville in a 2nd generation Audi S4. He was chucking the thing sideways flat out in 3rd gear (not bad going in a modestly powered 4WD with 5 passengers on a dry track) whilst fiddling with the radio!!

It'll be a pleasant change not seeing Holdens going round there that day.

Have they offered an 'Evolution' style event in the past? If so, is it purely laps of the circuit, or is there still slalom and skid pan etc with just a couple laps at the end of the day?

Looks like a slalom and skidpan, and other events with a few laps at the end of the day.

            Course details - Evolution
The four-hour session begins with an introduction and driver briefing. Participants are then allocated an instructor within a group of two. An individual driver assessment on the skidpan and circuit is conducted giving instructors a chance to review the individual’s current level of skill.

Participants are then taken through a range of advanced driving scenarios including and extended slalom, swerve and avoid as well as wet weather steering and braking. Exercises will begin at the pace at which the Progression course concluded and increase in speed and difficulty from that point, making this a genuinely advanced course.

Vehicle technology is studied in depth as drivers are taken through progressively more challenging exercises, individually providing a greater understanding of what the technology is capable of and why. In a fitting climax, participants are able to put their new skills to the test in an exhilarating circuit lapping session and gain valuable feedback from the instructor.

The Evolution course is designed to broaden previous driver knowledge, refine established skills and challenge even the most confident motorist, through an intensive and thrilling program.

            Key skills in this course:

•Combination slalom with swerve and avoid building on speed and steering control on each run.
            •Vision and throttle control.
•Threshold breaking and corner throttle control to develop an understanding of car balance on corners.
•Demonstrating and understanding performance and technical capabilities of the cars
•Heavy braking and heavy steering input (‘Lift off oversteer’ movement)
•Threshold braking and corner throttle control

            •Golf R (DSG)
            •Scirocco R (DSG)
            Technology & Product display area:

Obviously refering to the Scirocco. Either that or their Golf Rs are very different from mine.

Finance_Analyst, I live at Taringa, so i've no doubt seen you driving round at some point.

Well i did the Progression last year at Phillip Island & found it totally worthwhile & worth the bucks. Had a great tutor, a V8 supercar driver. Enjoyed & learnt stuff from all the drills (was actually blown away by the handling & braking, though acceleration was slightly ho-hum after my APR tune), then got two laps in the DSG R & 2 in the DSG GTI which were AWESOME, & also the sentiment of all that attended, i'm sure! Not too hard to do 200 down the main straight of the PI GP circuit in these stock VW's...

I'm in for the Evolution course this year for sure!

I'm booked into the Sydney Saturday Evolution course. For $250 (incl discount) I agree that it's good value considering that to get on a track these days means driving all the way down to Wakefield near Goulburn or being in some other car club and owning a racer.

Since I don't own a go-fast Golf nor have the inclination to join a club, this is perfect for me for the convenience of location and VW supplying the Golf R and Scirocco R.

booked and paid the Evolution course for Sat 2nd June

a while ago i spent $250 for a full day driving course on my own car.

a track day in Sydney costs between $140 (Marulan) to $250 (wakefield with circuitclub) plus wear and tear on my own car.

4 hrs on their cars for $250 is a good deal! won't be worried about reaching 130 degrees oil temp, or waiting until reaching at least 90 degrees before hitting it hard ;p

sillywet - no doubt! Although I have seen a few GTI Mk6s in white with detroits in the area... (I am always the one driving slow to save fuel round town!)

Where did you get the discount code from? I received an email from VW today advising me of the driving experience courses but there is no mention of a discount in it.

Phoned VW (1800607822) and gave them my rego and VIN in return for a $100 discount code and booked the Progression course at Phillip Island on Wednesday's session.
