Dubbers beware > Funnel Webs

Howdy all, just a beware note.
I was just sitting at my computer desk and below mme heard some scrathcing around near the skirting boards, looked down and found this little beauty



Sydney Funnel Web female.
Funneel Webs are easy to tell, they strike down as their fangs are mounted vertically, not horizontally like pincers. Spinerets (on the back of the abdomen are also pretty recognisable).

Must have come in to get out of all the rain and weather, get your shoes off the floor as they do like to hide in there.

Nasty little critters, dont kill them, if oyu are near the Aust Reptile Park catch them (with great care!) and take them there for milking, it really is a service!

It's funny, although I know full well about milking spiders and snakes for their venom, I just had this mental picture of a bunch of Funnel Web spiders on a dairy milking machine with the milkers attached to the fangs!!

Yes, I know, very trippy.... I think it is a combination of boredom after 4 weeks around the house after a shoulder reco, and pain killers...

hey sorry to raid the spiders thread but iv been going to doctors for my shoulder problem and their saying im going to need surgery to reattatch the rotory cuff muscle bla bla..is it heaps painfull??
im a big sissy when it comes to doctors n needles.and how long you out for?

Day 2 after the op is the most pain I have ever felt, after being kicked in the balls, but the same feeling through the whole day, as this is when the local in the joint is wearing off... Doseing up on Endone and Panadein Forte helps, but mostly you just want to die... I also had my knee done at the same time, so over all, I just felt like crap... 4 weeks in now, and I feel fine, but I am still looking at 2 weeks full time in a sling, and 6 weeks on and off in a sling too... In the long run it is worth getting done, especially since I'm not paying for it... I still have to get my left shoulder done yet...The hardest thing about the whole experience is not buying stuff online, which I have failed at!!

Back OT... Funnel web spiders are bad...

That's a type of Huntsman spider. Huntsman Spiders - Australian Museum

Not very toxic to humans and don't bite very often.

I have found a few over the years on my car here and there. Usually you have some nice tree's or in a very shaded garage you will find them coming along.

Atlas Spray from Aldi works very well between the cracks of the car lol

Yeah Aaron, huntsman is pretty harmless. They just look hideous, I hate them lol.

Spiders are the one thing really give me shivers. Ive been known to buy new tools before searching through the shed infested with them on occasion hah.

I bomb all of my storage and workshop areas regularly.

I'll even bomb any car I bring home for wrecking.

Not fond of surprises.

That's a Wolf Spider. Same as a huntsman but furry, they are also more of a grey in colour. Huntsmans are mainly a brownish colour.

We get them everywhere out here. They're alright. They can grow bigger than your palm, but they don't bite unless you're really unlucky and are generally not that aggressive.

They do enjoy hiding in firewood and behind picture frames..


We also get a lot of Redbacks and white tails. They are a danger. Thankfully the climate doesn't suit the Funnel Web as much here, although they do show up every now and then.

Not a bad idea for the interior, seeing as they're meant for rooms, they'd be very strong in a car!
