But what is dangerous speeding?... Is most dangerous speeding done within the speed limit or under 20kms over?
        what about-
going to bed late sleeping in and having to fly to work dodging thru traffic to be on time?
A taxi being reckless in traffic.
An anxious mum trying to meet her busy schedule with everything else on her mind for the next 2 weeks plus the kids in the back screaming...oh yes i stay well clear of them...
overtaking in road rage when your mind is clearly not on defensive driving but showing someone else how much of a prick you think they are...
were mostly nice in the car when we want to be...
Driving like 1 min your going to save by hassling other drivers on the road is worth it haha
Oh yea dont mention motorbikes on the 100+ motor ways weaving casually in between dense traffic all under 100 tho?!...
I was at an intersection where someone was racing to get thru the tail end of an orange light and hit a pedestrian who thought it would be safe to cross the road.
was the driver in a hurry??? What could he have done to avoid being in a hurry??
Is it better to learn some self discipline and make a conscious effort to calm ourselves down when we feel the urge to speed?
Plenty of mums lawyers pastors doctors teachers builders fathers soccer coaches speed regularly and it is always somehow quietly and mysteriously self justified in our own self confidence or anger or desperation or whatever we come up with to race that light, dodge into that space in the faster lane, pick the kids up by 4.
parading big number speed offenders on the front page are joke.
loosing a license does make us think tho.

At chadstone shopping centre yesterday I was almost run over by a crazy soccer mum at the wheel of a Mercedes ML series.

She was in such a hurry and not watching where she was going at all. I dont think she even noticed me jumping out of the way. These are the people we need off our roads.

best response to this topic yet. I completely agree. gtimk5 - sure 87km over the limit is dangerous, but is the headline justified? Ofcourse its not. I think just about everyone has made a relative point. Someone asked what can we do? Well, if you can type a response on this forum, you can sure as heck write a letter to an MP. It likely wont do much good, because I reckon most MP's are just like the fat, bored, retiree cardigans that complain about hoons, and will dismiss you as a liberalist, or socialist (or 'commie'!) but atleast there'll be another side to the argument.

ahh well, its the age old truth I suppose that "old people" will always complain that the "young people" are the problem, and often as not most of the "young people" dont care, or over-react in rebellion. . And all the while, its the soccer mums that are killing people in 4wd's.

if you look at the responses to the article one of the comments was the most valid. australian instructors give out licenses like they are lollies.

my missus is norwegian, it costs about $3,000 AUD and months of training and many lessons under various conditions to get your license. in europe you need to know how to drive before they give you your license…

after living in melbourne for 10 years and Europe on and off over the last few I can say with confidence that Australian drivers need to be better educated on how to drive. At the risk of sounding racist have any of you Melbournians driven in springvale recently? If you have, point proven.

i agree. no doubt she was in a hustle to get outta there because she'd likely scratched someones car in the parking lot, seeing as no-one was there to help her park it properly.

isht wont change. wealthy man gets trophy wife, turns her into soccer mom. soccer mom gets to drive around in BIG SAFE SUV. soccer mom crushes all in her path because....well..... she learned how to drive in her first car, which was a small hand-me-down hatch, but she doesnt know the dimensions of her 2.5 tonne turbo/ super charged urban assault vehicle.

comes home with dents and scratches all over the thing, hubby is momentarily disgruntled, she gets on her knees, and all is sorted out over the next 5 minutes.

for anyone who thinks im being overly cynical, take a drive around toorak/ st kilda/ prahran/ etc.
