Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yeah I was just thinking the same thing.
Meanwhile I fitted my rear spacers yesterday all by myself. This requires taking the wheels off.
Also fitted a vented wheel arch liner on the front which also required taking another wheel off.
Body weight is a wonderful leverage device.
                    Cheers,

                      I'm in before lockdown.

It's all been explained in the pages before. If you can't change a tyre, you shouldn't have a licence. The only exceptions are the elderly and health complications (pregnant, stuffed back etc..).

I've changed wheels/tyres in a suit, not hard. Spare rag will cover the dirty hands.

living in a world where everyone had common sence a typical chore like this shouldnt be a problem though unfortunatly the world isnt built that way. commonsence it seems is optional. 2 biggest mistakes ive scene is /a not loosening the wheel nuts before jacking it up and b/ not positioning the jack correctly on the car. its explained in a vehicles service book but unfortunatly if your young, the car is old (hence no servioce manual) and your parents expect you to have the common sence to be able to achieve this (which again not everybody has) then i guess i can see how people run into strife. the other day i almost sore a young lady pour water into her engine block, to which i very lightly cautioned her not to. i recon even leaning towards providing basic car care in driver safety courses could seriously yield good results. but then again maybe not.

I'm a firm believer in learning from your mistakes too...If that young lady was to pour water in her sump. she will learn down the road that she did wrong.
Costly, but she will never do it again!!

You have such faith in peoples' ability

Have you ever heard the saying "Those who don't learn from their mistakes are condemned to forever repeat them" ? Or then again she might come on a forum like this and blather on about how it is the manufacturers or dealers fault that she needed to add water, and that cars shouldn't need ANY maintenance or checking between the dealer's services

Hahahaha...After seeing how the vehicles I work on get treated, I have just about given up...Cars wil never win over people with no common sence...But our one shining light for us that gets some people to learn is the term NFW...Non Fair Wear, followed br Member To Pay...
