Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

My son who works for Mazda has just been through over 12 months of this and Mazda have now done over 90% of all cars and every owner who has not had it done has been contacted multiple times. I can't understand why anyone here has not heard about it as it has been in every newspaper and news outlet multiple times over the last 12 months including two fatalities in Australia. The explosive is supposed to be progressive in nature but due to moisture the separate explosive pellets bond together and explode as one thus the container they are in disintegrates into shrapnel which can then seriously injure or kill the driver. Apparently the problem has been known for nearly 15 years but Takata covered it up and I think as recently as a few months ago I think it was Mercedes Benz Australia who put out a media release saying they did not think the problem warranted a recall at all!

My understanding is that Mitsubishi are leading the pack, and they have only done just under 60% of vehicles.
The ACCC has ordered manufacturers to provide VINs of those additional affected vehicles by April 3, so they can be added to the compulsory recall list.Cheers

True - they hadn't been previously included but there were a few problem ones identified last year in Spain, Portugal etc. My reading of it is that they are currently being replaced like for like as there is no long term solution as yet (December 2019). That means that eventually they will be required to be replaced again down the track. If that's the case then this will go on for years and will possibly include cars currently on sale.Indium Grey Golf 7.5 Alltrack 135tdi Premium - all options

Mazda have done over 90% as i wrote above. They went as far as air freighting to achieve that goal by last Christmas and they now regard it as basically all done. All the dealers had to reach a set target by Christmas and that was achieved. Some dealers were talking of putting on sub contractors because they did not have enough staff but I don't know if that actually happened.

Really?? You haven't been keeping up with this have you? Given the volume of replacements and that a number of manufacturers have had delays while awaiting new parts, the liklihood of the replacements sitting around for years is about zero.Last edited by Rooboy; 03-03-2018, 06:20 PM.Indium Grey Golf 7.5 Alltrack 135tdi Premium - all options

My Golf is hopefully in the system under my current address after the engine rebuild last year at the dealer. The Multivan hasn’t been to a dealer since I moved... I suppose I’ll work that out eventually.
