Its a late 1980 but the above spec of the what you state is a 79, also it has the 5 speed box.Originally posted by golfworxI reckon 79. Big bar's, earlier style dash. 79 was the last year with that style dash too.
80 had the new dash & striped trim & 81 had the big rear lights along with the A-pillar deflector's, angled door pull's & bigger door bin's.

Sorry, my mistake. Jan 80 was the intro of 5 speed & the early dash ran upto Aug. 1980. I should have remembered as I have an 80 mk1 here with early dash.
Sept. 80 had the new dash & striped trim
Sept. 81 had the big rear lights along with the A-pillar deflector's, angled door pull's & bigger door bin's.

I too have done a lot of competition in an early Golf and they are a great car to compete in and very low maintenance = cheap!!!!! Cheers, Andrew

Especially the RS2. Got to ask how does the fastest production car to 50km/h feel? I can only imagine the sound under full noise.
Jeez, I wish we got these in OZ.
Yeah, the RS2 was a cool car, loved pulling up to anything at the lights and toasting it
I know one of the NZ new RS2s made it to OZ though (blue), NZ got all the RS2s that were earmarked for OZ, for some reason you guys didnt want them
