Came back from Rockhampton to Brisbane today, passing through some heavy rain in the Multivan on several occasions.

A number of times, I hit water on the curb side of the road at the bottom of slopes, and on each occasion the appearance was identical to the glaze that showed up everywhere where damage had been patched. On every occasion, the ABS must have kicked in to equalise wheel speed & that kicked the cruise control out. Luckily all occurrences were on straight(ish) road, because it could have been a right bugger to lose traction on a corner. It was something of a challenge in a straight line when I wasn't expecting it.

At least you got home safe, ****ty conditions at the moment.

Im sure ABS has its place, but when activates when you aren't expecting it, it is a little scary.

Yes found the same thing in ours first time you think what was that then realise the cruise has dropped out , stops you from aqua planing .

I had similar incident on Monday with traction control kick in on a corner in pissing rain over a crest with cruise set to 100, not a van but a Jetta.
First I noticed was flashing light on dash then cruise deactivate, car did not deviate from it's line at all, very impressed.

Just my opinion, but CC and heavy rain, in my book, I dont do. You gotta read the road and pay attention for big puddles. When you foot is actually on the accelerator you have about 0.6s less reaction time to do something.

I'm a bit the same with cruise control and dawn/dusk. It's great for sticking to the speed limit but not so great if Skippy jumps out at you, I'm finding myself being super observant and actually driving with the cruise on but my foot beside the brake pedal actually touching the side of it. Sitting there with my feet flat and steering isn't going to help my reaction time if Suicidal Skip jumps out and picks a fight with the van.

Try doing that when a full sized deer steps out of the shadows into your flight path talk about soiled underwear moment , almost the next day I invested in a Cree lightbar for when driving on country roads . My son got his first taste of aqua planning in his T4 when he was still on his L plates , we were on the way to a Moto Cross race at Ipswich when we encontered alarge downpour . He was driving at around 90kmh when he hit a puddle on the LH side I swear in that nano second he also had a soiled underwear moment , luckily it was a double lane highway and no other traffic beside him the van took a sharp jerk to the right and then realigned itself . The look on his face was pretty funny and we did talk about him learning from that experience , I booked him in shortly after for a Defensive Driving Course at MT Cotton and they gave the learners a few hours on a skid pan as part of the course to learn about all sorts of skids etc best $250 I ever spent .
