So finally got around to fitting my light bar on the weekend. Very happy with the finished product. Only took a few hours to complete. Removed the bumper (about 30-40 mins) , fit the light bar and connect wiring, (30 mins max.), run the switch wire into the cabin and into the dash (2 hrs. This was the worst part). Refit the bumper & cut out opening for light bar (30 mins). A lot easier than I expected. (Was going to put up some pics, but haven’t worked out how to post pictures yet. Still new to this). The wiring harness that I bought with the light bar makes it so much easier. Wouldn’t do it any other way. Gonna make a huge difference for our trip across the nullarbor this weekend.
Same way we did ours except ours is connected via a relay to the high beam saves having to turn a switch off and on when in use .
Without bar normal low beam
With Cree on with High beam
This one is the same. It will only work if the high beam is on. I can choose to have the high beam with or without the light bar on. That’s what the switch is for.
I figure that I can scare the beejeezus out of someone who is front of me when I pass a fixed speed camera by very quickly flashing the high beam , all the car in front will see is a bright flash and they will think the camera has got them . And NO I haven't done it to anyone yet .
I got sick of a site I visit continually asking me if I was over 13 & soliciting my email address, so I gave up last week & offered them the National Security email. They haven't bothered me since.
I used to wire driving lights on two way switches, on/off/on so the lights could be aimed without the headlights on but switched over to the second position and they were turned on/off with the high beam or totally switched off.
Here's a question for Sunny, Yogi and Markee, have you ever had any times you wished your light bars were somehow mounted higher? Or are you OK with the visibility from them being mounted in that section of bumper bar?
I'm about to have one mounted in a similar position on my T6.
I'll jump in first , I am quite happy with the position as the Cree bars give light in all directions so height is not an issue as far as I am concerned . I dont think there would be any alternatives with mounting it on the roof {impractical } or maybe like this one . Its just so wrong on every level . If you check out my photos on the previus page you can see the difference the bar makes , the normal beam in the photo cuts off a metre off the ground as seen on those trees , but the bar gives massive coverage low and high which is very handy in case of those suicidal drop bears .
Thanks for that. I'll report back on findings once I have it fitted (I don't want to muck around pulling the bar off I'll leave it to the professionals).
I bit the bullet and went for something a little more expensive:
I am completely happy with the position of mine. Makes a huge difference as Sunny mentioned. Did a country drive last night, the difference is like ‘night & day’, so to speak. It’s a lot more comfortable driving with the LED bar on, as the standard headlights are hopeless in my opinion.
