A high reading of Aluminium, 32 ppm with a caution note on the reading.

I'll be looking at getting an oil consumption test soon, when i know ill be doing large highway km.

I Still have a year left of my warranty
Yes, the Al particles are bit higher, but the engine is still running in. I’d change the engine oil every 6months during running in period and even after if you drive short trips or don’t travel often enough.
What recommendation came on the report?

I know the the engine is running in, but i just find it odd that its a lot higher than the last two oil tests

      1750km 16ppm
      5721km 20ppm
      13212km 32ppm

And the oil was changed after each test.

I looking at a lap of Aus in about 3 months, so that will definitely get some km on the engine before the warranty period is up.

As for recommendations, resample at a reduced service interval to further monitor

as VW did the oil changes, i don't have access to what came out of the sump.

      • Here is UOA result from my 2005 T5 which had all aluminium engine Google Sheets: Mag-sign In
        T5 UOA.doc - Google Docs
as you can see I’ve (done by me not the dealer) changed oil at 2600km and at 14,000km, the Al particle count dropped dramatically. It’s important that with every oil change you replace oil filter as well.

Link to the rest of my old post. T5 FAQ and How to THREAD (up to August 2009).

Can you post all 3 UOA results here? Maybe do the 4th one now, just after the oil change.

I don't believe in long life oil, as it does appear to be thinner..

I do agree with using the correct oil spec, i did notice, people using 507 oil instead of 504 oil were having cam wearing issues (if i can recall it right) as the 507 didn't have an additive.

Whether it makes a difference in by changing the oil early at all, i don't really know if it would help in this instance.

If it is a flaw in the engine design, oil change wouldn't have made a huge difference..

The key is finding out what was done to the later engines to resolve this issue, as then under your AUS rights, you can proof it wasn't fit for use, hence the redesign.

Hopefully you can get VWA to the table to pay for most of it... i wouldn't expect them to pay 100%, but getting of with 70% would help.

Keep us informed, with your research..

Many earlier T5s with 2.5 TDI used wrong oil specs and paid the price later. The Penrite back then had an oil with not approved specs HPR0 0W-30 (506.01) and also HPR Diesel5 5W-40, but soon stopped recommending it to be used where VW506.01 is required. The Castrol only supplier of approved VW506.01 was supplying only to VW dealers, in other words, you couldn't buy it, or order it even if you were retailer or workshop.
Later, around 2009/10 you could get Fuchs/TITAN oil that was VW506.01 approved. Today there is also LIQUI MOLY with the right specs for before 7/2006 T5s AXD and AXE engines without DPF.

Use anything else in these engines and they will not last!

You should use oil that has VW504.00/507.00 approval. There are many 5W30 oils but only a few are approved. Sorry, meets or exceeds doesn’t count it most like isn’t approved. Also other viscosity oils are not approved, use them at your own risk if you have to.

              • High oil usage in these motors are not uncommon and are due to the EGR Cooler failing it's a world wide problem. VW T5.1 / T6 excessive oil use for CFCA 2.0 180hp engines. public group | Facebook

                • so, it appears I too may have some serious issues with my motor. having bought a MY11 van with 2.0TT last September I've managed to clock 10,000 kms down but the van was recently idle for about 10 weeks awaiting repairs...which was ultimately diagnosed as a faulty water pump (excess coolant use since day 1)...but whilst this has since been fixed, I've also had an oil use problem since day 1...probably gone thru 20L in that time. since water pump fix I've driven 1000kms with oil level dropping but less than previous months...yet to understand exactly how much oil is being used thou. vehicle has done 145k kms...

not sure I'm happy to part with the van, but I'm also not too keen on having to spend 5-10k to fix this...seriously tempted to just trade it in

It’s not clear from your posting what engine you have. Is it 2.0TSI or 2.0TDI ?

Regardless of engine type, you certainly shouldn’t have these issues. If it was me, I’d certainly raised it up with the dealer and even VW AU.

                    • I'm assuming that the 2.0TT is the 2.0 BiTurbo

Ive heard the term twin turbo (TT), so i can only guess that it is the Diesel

                        • I never gave an update on my motor sorry guys....so

I got a ****load of info together about people all around the world with similar issues and news articles and emailed my VW dealership in QLD.
They told me they wanted to do an oil change and reset the computer ( i had a remap done) then they wanted me to drive i think it was 1000kms and come back.

I came back, they tested the oil consumption...and eventually agreed to repair the motor....except the egr valve/cooler and dpf ( which i had deleted). I had to pay for them to be put back on.

Sooo in the end i paid 2k for a tune remap, egr valve blank, and dpf delete.

I then paid about 1k diagnosing the fault.

I then paid roughly 6k for a new dpf, egr cooler.

Then...VW replaced the motor only, for FREE, they were extremely helpful as it had 165k and was out of warranty.

Im happy with the outcome, we have now got 225 000kms on the car, have been around Australia since 1 and half times, tackling roads such as the great central road, the savannah way and are about to do the oodnadatta track and tanami in the next two months!! Its such a nice van...if anyone needs help with their van with similar engine problems contact me on facebook or instagram...just search for...
