VW T5.1 excessive oil use

Saltdog this is terrible news and I truly feel for ya. Have a good read on the T5-life forum as this issue is known and very common in the UK and Europe.
The fault, as someone else has explained, lies in the EGR breaking down internally and letting small aluminium particles get into the combustion chamber and scoring the bores therefore allowing the engine oil to pass through and be burnt.
Did you notice if the van was actually driving better at any point?
I too have the same model van with a pre suffix EGR cooler and have taken the first steps of monitoring my oil by 1. changing it at 10,000kms intervals and 2. testing the oil at 5,000kms intervals.
First oil test so far has shown unusual signs of wear but it's only the first test on 10,000km old oil at 139,000kms. Next test is due in about 2,500kms without an oil change then again at 150,000kms to establish a wear trend.
I also had a compression test done at approx 135,00kms with the results all being in the normal range.

Mine, is merely a safe guard to see what is happening to my engine as its new, and if this issue comes up, i have some data if i have to get goodwill from VW.2017 VW T6 3200KG GVM LWB 132kW 7 Speed DSG (Campervan Conversion)

Yup what Bryn said and I'll also be 'mapping' out/blocking the EGR and removing the DPF for good measure

I hope it was under 160k when you bought it.
They don't have to warrant it if it's over 160k.
Second-hand vehicles (other than motor cycles)
The dealer guarantee for a second-hand motor vehicle which had driven less than 160,000 km and was less than 10 years old when purchased is limited to 5,000 km after purchase, or 3 months after purchase, whichever occurs first.Last edited by LogicprObe; 21-12-2017, 08:04 PM.2018 Crafter Runner

Just had my 2011 throw up a low oil pressure warning after a DPF warning last week. She’s been drinking the oil since we bought it used 3 years ago, probably 5-7 litres per 10,00km but was told it’s normal!
Now when I start it, the top left of the engine is tapping like hell. I’ve changed the oil and filter yesterday as it was due in 700Km but it only quietened it a little. I haven’t driven it, I’ve dropped it at Wangara VW (WA) to have it diagnosed. If it’s a new engine I’m hoping they apply some goodwill. 148K’s and all servicing on time.Last edited by Pominoz13; 28-12-2017, 06:27 PM.

I can't remember if it was. I don't think so...
So now this happened. Drove from Bright to Sydney, topped up oil in bright to just under the full mark. Bright Sydney Canberra Sydney, oil is just above the low mark, coolant is under the min mark and coolant in the oil.
Off to find someone who can diagnose this. There goes the holidays...
