T5.1 DMF Cost

When I did mine it took us around 8 hours , mind you we went in blind as a bat so it was a learning curve . At a workshop they would have the correct tools and lifting and jacking tools so that would make life easy $176 per hour OUCH that hurts , the poor sod doing the job is probably only getting $30 an hour so its a huge mark up at the dealer level .

Surprised they're only quoting 4 hours. I reckon it'll take a lot longer, but if that's all they're preparing to charge you, then great.

Agree Umai the price per hour to the tech I thought as a bit generous but I did not want to cheapen their experience , yes 4 hours seemed a short time as I know when I did mine we had to lift the engine in situ off the subframe then support the engine while we manoeuvred the gearbox out from under the van . I think from memory we even unbolted the subframe to get the mongrel clear enough to get the box out . I know I spent a fair bit of time on my back balancing the heavy gear box on my chest to get it out and then back in again , once the box was out changing the clutch kit was pretty easy new plates new throw out bearing but no DMF as I did not know about that little piece of VW sorcery until some days later . Best part is that I did that job around 4 or 5 years ago and the dodgy DMF is still working for forward motion [not so good in reverse ] ha ha .

Update on DMF replacement. Vehicle returned and all rattles are gone ! came in at $4000 which was $400 under quote so I'll have an ale on that. Cheers

Got a firm quote from my local VW dealer for under 4K (six hours labour)
I'm booking it in!
