Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Have you considered tinting the top couple of inches of the windscreen?

Probably cheaper, and less likely to be torn off by a low branch.

      How does that thing attach?

Assuming you aren't going to remove/install it in summer/winter tiniting is probably the easier option (although questionably legal??)

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

As long as the tint does not intrude on line of site I believe it is okay , the other benefit is no external wind drag .

I have tinted the top 25% of the windscreen. I was told by a window tinter that as long as 75% of the screen is not it is legal.

Very happy no need to lover the sunvisors except early morning and late afternoon and no extra wind drag.

I carry a cap in the car. The brim can be angled for about any circumstance & it minimizes blind spots.
