As a motor trimmer for over 40 years plus I have a preference for a product which we called Triflex its on a roll 1.8 metres wide and 10mm thick . It is made up of shredded wool products which makes it the best at insulation and sound proofing , it is also better pricing but you do need to have a compressor and spray glue to apply . I have done quite a few vans most VW,s and every single one of the owners have been amazed at how quiet they are afterwards . There are some extra tricks that will help do a more comprehensive job , like stuffing the pillars with 4 inch thick foam usually an old foam matress will do cut it into strips and feed it into the pillars and also over the top of the rear wheel arches which is where a lot of road noise comes from . I also have used expanda foam for some areas but be aware don't use it where it can place outward pressure on external metal surfaces , also use a race tape or similar to seal every single hole in the side walls . a lot of people forget to remove the roof trims as there is next to no sort of insulation up there just a couple of those tar paper sheets . The front doors and sides and the tailgate are always done as well you can see a couple of my fit outs .here .http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...tml?highlight= and our own van http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...tml?highlight=

Cheers for your input Sunny. Is this the underlay you use? Underlay 900 gsm | Nolan.UDA And is it possible to buy it without an account?

Added a small +1 about 8 weeks ago and therefore needed some extra seating so today I fitted a double foldable and removable rear seat, non genuine but approved for use in Aus, now just need to get it engineered. Wasn't cheap at $1500 but couldn't find any VW used ones. Installation was pretty straight forward but now I've gotta build out behind them to house all my tools and stock for work duties. Another project to put into the pipeline which includes the ability to go away
camping in it, so it has to be multi functional.
Location testing/deciding
Finished!

Originally posted by Mysticality View PostMelted wiring is one issue; but being that every globe is computer controlled the other issue is drawing too much current through the power circuits built into the body control module.
I'm not 100% sure on the T5 Transporter, but in the Octavia the globe doesn't have a relay to power it; just a line straight from the computer to the light - the $800 computer is what I'm worried about.
An update on this, after some more research I've transferred the higher 100W/90 globes over to our older Subaru Forester and gone with the std 55W/60 6000k globes for headlights as after speaking with my local VW service manager about the CAnbus system and being shown the wiring diagram the above has been confirmed that the lights are directly connected to the BCM and it's not worth the risk of burn something out on the PCB.
Thanks for the advise fellas.
Next small job is painting the VW badges black, pics to follow.

Did you consider bypassing the factory wiring and introducing a relay into the circuit , whilst it would seem a bugger of a job it would probably only require cutting two wires on each side to redirect through a relay no drain on the BCM as the relays only require a small voltage to trigger . I know that's how I would approach the problem as it was exactly how I bypassed the VW BCM trailer wiring system and saved over $600 and also recoding as well .

I did mate and couldn't be bothered to be honest as a new set of globes was only $30 and I got a spare as well.

Did you try any of those bright Phillips or Narva globes before trying there 6000K output?
I noticed they still had the same watt rating as the stock units, but a brighter output and ADR compliant.2017 VW T6 3200KG GVM LWB 132kW 7 Speed DSG (Campervan Conversion)

Sprayed my front VW badge just now and it turned out great.
Used this stuff which a friend had left over from using on the inside of his Storm Trooper helmet of all things!
5 coats so it's nice a thick and should put up with the abuse of being on the front of the van full time.
Just coming up with a plan on doing the rear ones now as I've seen the Transporter, 4Motion and TDI all done as well and they look great. Just gotta do some more research about it pealing off the surrounding painted body and not the actual badges.
