  • How to bleed 2.5L 128kw 4motion Coolant Properly??

A previous owner of my car filled the car with an incorrect green coolant. I have attempted bleeding the system but I don't think that i have removed all of the original coolant!

I have drained the coolant out of the system by disconnecting the lower left radiator hose (I could not find a drain point, although a manual i have seen shows two drain plugs near the water pump??), it was quite messy and hard to catch. I have now filled the system with Penrite coolant flush and distilled water. I ran the engine for 15mins as requested (with the heaters on high). Problem is now that the flush has circulated the system the colour of the coolant is green again? So obviously I didn't bleed the system completely!? I have Pink Premix Penrite G12 equivalent ready to top up, but I want all of the original coolant out! Can someone please give me a straightfoward guide to bleeding the original coolant properly and then filling back up correctly!

    Thanks!

I'm not surprised it's still green...the colouring agent is quite powerful. Dump the treatment out and give it another blast with just the water and you should be OK. Just keep an eye on it and perhaps do a swap again after a couple of weeks on the first G12...

Thanks Sean! What I don't understand is that, when I dump the treatment out (via the lowest radiator hose), will there be treatment stuck after the thermostat and the rest of the system?? It doesn't seem like all the coolant comes out?

      So if i:

      1. Drain Treatment
      2. Blast with water with hose still off?
      3. Reconnect hose?
      4. Refill with new coolant G12 equiv (Penrite)
      5. Start Motor with heater on full heat for 15 minutes, topping up as the level drops?

In step 5, will the new pink coolant be mixing with diluted old green coolant or will the hose water have flushed it out? I just really don't want to be mixing the old (who knows what brand coolant) with the new!

You'll never get it all out...so don't panic. Drop the treatment, refit hose, rinse with water, drop water, refit hose, refill with G12. Then drive it around for a week or two. If you don't like the look of it by then...drop it again and refill.

Thanks Seano! I have completed what you said. It looks a nice pink colour now. Took the van for a drive and had to top up again as the coolant went below min level! Hey by any chance does any one know the name of the socket required to take off the gearbox fill and drain bungs/plugs?

            Cool.

Is it a multi splined socket? I know you can get the driver bits for them locally from Mectronix

Yeah it is the same as the other splined sockets, except it has a hole in the center!!!
