Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Was it the gearbox?

A few thousand kilometers ago, the sum cracked was off the auto box on my 2007 Multivan, it was fed a sacrificial oil refill & a run before a new filter & refill. Over the last weekend, I travelled from Brisbane to Ungarie and back, around 2300 km total.

Before the gearbox resuscitation, I would have expected to average just shy of 10l/100 km. This time it was 8.3 km on the down run and 8.5 back.

Can this be attributed to a healthier gearbox?

    John

If it were slipping, then perhaps it would use more fuel.

Were the engine and transmission control units reset?

After two more trips, I'm detecting an issue. The cruise control doesn't hold as tight a speed range as it did reading off my GPS. Once, I could expect it to drop back no more than 2 km uphill & maybe three down hill. Now, it seems to be double that.

        How should I address this?

On the other hand, economy is still great. 856 km Brisbane to Raglan & refill at Childers on the way back returned an exact 8 km/l.
