  • Would you swap?

Good evening! I'm consider trading in my 2011 Transporter 4motion DSG on a 2013 Transporter 4motion Manual.
Mine has got all the bells and whistles and the 2013 not. Reason is because mine has got 160000km on and the 2013 only 100000km. Another concern is the DSG gearbox, and I've heard horror stories of repair charges.....
    Any opinions will be appreciated
    Thanks

Go with the manual I would love to have one for our family runabout but the missus only has an auto license . After being burnt with our early T5 Tiptronic auto failure I still drive our 2012 T5.1 with only 40000 kays with trepidation as it has some strange quirky behaviours that don't install confidence in the DSG

          Devil you know???
You know your engine, body, suspension and all that. The only questions you have are around the gearbox and the longevity of the engine.

Do you really want manual that much? Or is this all about the DSG and it's potential failure?

What's the cost of a manual conversion (as a worst case if the DSG packed it in?).
What the cost of a replacement engine if it went bang one day? (and what's to say that wouldn't happen with the newer one anyway??).

When it comes to bells and whistles, what would you actually loose? Do you want those things? What would be the cost of getting them back? (Even if you say you won't there is a good chance you'll be telling us all how you missed that xxxx option so bought one cheap somewhere... )

If you keeps yours and something goes wrong, you'll kick yourself.
If you trade up and something goes wrong, you'll kick yourself.

For me I would find it very hard to "upgrade" to the same car. Half the reason I still haven't upgraded our 2010 Multivan (T5.2). In your case you will actually be losing somethings too! (and the stamp duty cost of transfer which is on market value too).

If someone rocked up to my driveway with spec for spec the same car except in manual vs my DSG and said "the wife can't drive manual so I'd like to trade"... I'd consider it... but I'd always be wondering what was wrong with it.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

going on your info, i don't think I'd do it.

Depends on the changeover costs i guess.
How much would it cost to get all the accessories you have, AGAIN.

If your DSG is fine, as Hawk says, better the devil you know...

So I presume your DSG is the 7 speed.

If that is right, I believe this is the Wet Clutch and not a DSG gearbox that has had a lot of reported problems.

                        I would keep it.

Yes it's the 7 speed, apparently it has a clutch with a spring of some kind that is prone to problems.
