  • Broken Heater core and vacuum pipes diagram 1995 Caravelle

    Hi Guys,

I have a 1995 Caravelle 2.5 ACU which has a broken heater core. Was driving with the kids and had the A/C running when a burst of steam started rushing through the vents and smell of coolant...a bit of a scare! Anyway, I have taken out the dashboard and got to the offending unit. I have also noticed that the previous owner must have removed this unit before as it has most of the vacuum pipes unplugged and blocked with screws . Kinda explains why I could never get the lower vents to work or to make some adjustments. Also on acceleration, I would hear one of the vents open up - vacuum leak? The foaming material on the vents is completely gone. So I guess my questions are:
    - Does anyone know where I can get hold of a vacuum pipe diagram for this system so that I can attempt to reconnect the vacuum hoses correctly?
    - Where can I get a replacement heater core? I'm in Victoria but an overseas supplier would be alright if I cannot get one closer to home.
    - What else can I use on the flaps instead of the foaming material?

    Cheers!
    Steve

Draft excluder foam tape would seal the vents.

The part number should be on the side of the radiator, just google that to start with.

      Thanks,
I've successfully ordered a new heater core. Unfortunately I've figured out why the vacuum pipes are blocked off. My heater box is missing one actuator. Previous owner must have removed it for some reason . I was wondering if anyone knows where I can source the complete housing...minus the heater core. Cheers!
      Steve.

Camden gti might have one. Matt has a thing about transporters.

Ok...after trolling through the interwebs, I believe this is the part number of the vacuum unit control flap 191820676A. Now to search for availability. I will give Camden a ring in the morning as well.

That part is off a Mk2 golf. So much better chance of finding one.

Thanks Gavin. Called Camden gti and they are currently trying to get one for me. Getting a MK2 in the wreckers is also not as easy as I thought. Been calling around Melbourne area with no luck.
