Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Get it scanned and fixed. Could be detrimental to the DPF.

    No point guessing.

check your brake lights are working.
        If not, replace/repair brake switch.

Get a fault scan mate. Without that it could be anything.

I may ask the question? why would brake lights affect the glow plug lights . Seems like the more technology progresses the more weird things happen .

This is not something new, exactly the same on my '01 T4. VW just use the glow plug light for multiple uses.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

Yep...does double duty on the T4 diesels as a 'check engine' light. Which is kind of bizarre when the only time I've seen it flash is when the brake light switch has turned turtle

Could be worse I s'pose...it could just dump the entire driveline into 'limp home' mode instead. That'd be fun.

Yes we have to live with all this technology , I was working on a new Peugot 308 , apparently the car is fitted with tyre pressure monitoring and if the tyres are changed it has to be recalibrated through a computer DUH.

Thank you very much, also ''Scouser'' ''Jets'' and ''Seano''. That's exactly what it was. I had a new switch shipped up from Melbourne last night. Installed it this morning. End of problem. It pays to ask the question to see if there is a simple solution before spending money on fault scans. If it's of interest to anyone TRIDON make an aftermarket switch which costs $30.00. The part number is TBS 092.
