Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • T5 trailer plug hrlp

    Hi guys,

I FINALLY got around to putting a tow ball on the van (pig of a job, who ever invented the plastic push lugs owes me an hour of my life back!) and now i just need to organise a plug. I was told its not that simple on these vans, is that true? All I need is brake lights and indicators for when I pick up scaffolds etc on trailer. The van has zero fancy features like reversing sensors etc so is there a loom point I can splice into or a factory plug hidden I am unaware of?

Any help would be really appreciated.

Pre-'10 facelift, you can just splice into the tail light wiring.

Perfect!! Never been happier to have the pre facelift

Can anyone link me to a diagram of loom and recommend a splicing location?

Yep, clearly a single use item if there ever was one.. Once I got a method sorted I could remove them all with no damage quite easily but the learning curve was quite aggravating!

Just probe the back of the light connector with a testlight to get the wires you need.

You'll need to run a wire over to the right-hand side for the right side blinker.

If I remember right you can tap into the drivers side indicator harness at the very top where the harness comes out of the rear pillar on the drivers side .
