Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Not sure how but the motor has gone in my 2005 manual high line. So what now? Has anyone got advice on replacement motors, or, does anyone want the van, everything else is fine, beautiful in fact.....not sure of the value.

Initially I was losing water but did not where. Pressure test said there was not a problem. Continued to loose water so I took it to beetle exchange. They replaced the water pump, seemed to be running fine, 200 klms later oil warning light came on, I stopped, she never started again.......

From what I have read the water goes into the engine , oil and water not a good combo . Judging by the short distance travelled after the pump was done it sounds like the answer .

So, my multivan is back on the road thanks to queanbeyan deisel service. New second hand engine with 70000,ks for $8000, new turbo, new starter motor, $12800 back on the road. I have to say the new engine is a lot more powerful, no lag, about 20% more power up the hills. I think problem all started when I was losing water straight to the oil sump, so when they did a pressure test, sure there was nothing leaking out. Even though we changed the water pump in the end I think the damage was already done. They could not turn the engine at all. The oil hydraulics had completely seized. So, as others have said the minute you start losing water, stop, and get it fixed.....
