Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Diesel vs Petrol head gasket for T4

I ordered a T4 gasket head set and what arrived was for a diesel - is it the same as the petrol in the head and manifold gaskets?

Post up the relevent engine codes that the parts are applicable to, and what yours happens to be.

My money is on the answer being "no".

AET engine is the original. Gaskets look the same apart from the exhaust.

More on this: VRS gasket set - apart from the head gasket, the aftermarket 2.4D/2500P gasket set I got from the UK for $60 had gaskets for both the diesel and the petrol. I did not use the head gasket, preferring to get a payen one, which has extra reinforcing between the cylinders.
