Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    From Wikipedia it seems you have a problem with some vegetation in your engine ? {A potometer is a piece of apparatus used to measure the rate of water loss from a plant (transpiration). The rate of transpiration can be estimated in two ways:}

Potentiometer? As in a variable resistor?

It could also be a "photometer sensor" ?

Those familiar with the diesel exhaust emissions maybe know the word.

But, why not to call them and ask? The guy probably used a different term for something or just made a typo error.

I would take a guess and the lady at the dealer maybe did a typo.

              Well here is a update.
I was refitted with my second EGR in as little as 4 weeks thanks to VW warranty on parts this was covered. After install techs still found check engine light on, they diagnosed faulty ECU. Asking VW for goodwill they supplied a new ECU and I just had to pay 2 hours labor. I was told a new ECU would have cost me $2900 if I was to buy one myself. Thank god I did not..
I now have my VW back and all seems ok, but I have not really had a much of a chance to drive it, because I have spent the last 3 weeks in hospital due to a busted appendix, and a laparotomy and other complications.
I sure hope this is the last of my VW issues for some time.
I like to think my dealer has looked after me.

Better talk to your doctor to see what sort of warranty they offer , after that sort of service job I would hope they could guarantee the repairs . Groan .

Well here's my under-the-hood burping/farting/buzzing sound fixed (at LAST!) - and what it took.
"...carried out diagnosis and found issue relating to tpi attached resonances on the boost pressure control valves; removed and replaced with vacuum hoses with updated vibration dampeners as required. Road tested all ok"
                  Parts ... VW7E0129458N ... hose $28.67
                  ... VW 7E0129458M ...hose $42.95 The prices reflect, I believe, a part-warranty reduction.
LATE EDIT: don't know if it makes any difference but I should probably have stated that my van is a twin turbo.

Thanks for this info guys! My 2011 T5GP also has the mooing noise occasionally too ... I think once I even got the limp home mode too.

Interestingly looking under the hood, the large silver part of the engine where the oil filter attaches to has a sticker saying "Pierburg Cooler, manufactured 2013" ... but the car is 2011..... why would there be a 2013 part in there? Has this got something to do with the EGR valve?

My 04 has started doing this farting noise intermittently, most commonly on startups, or even just turning the key(no start).Sometimes just sitting at the lights.
                        Again, not always though.
Had a quick perusal around the vacuum hoses, etc couldn't see anything obvious.Even chucked some WD down a hose thinking it's a sticky valve.Still occurred again.
No loss in performance, no codes on my code-reader, vacuum EGR has been blocked long ago.
Not too bothered yet, until it gets worse

I just checked the part number for this part mentioned above on the front of the engine where the oil filter attached, it's 03L 115 512A and described as EGR VALVE online. So obviously this Multivan has had the EGR replaced in 2013, phew...

Costs 800 Euro new but it's on the front of the engine (engine code CFCA) doesn't look like it would be too hard to replace....

Although the air intake seems to go behind the back of the engine which is naturally where I'd expect an EGR valve to be, so I'm not sure what's going on. Will just cross my fingers and hope I have no issues.

There is a new revised version that is dated March 2015, I have this installed in my Transporter, and was told by Vw techs that all previous versions will fail, so they refused to put another one in my Vw until they could source this. I am told to change this you need to take the whole front end off and dump the oil and coolant. It's a big job.

Ah yes oops I was thinking of Umai Naa's post on this thread about the EGR being at the back in the single-turbo engine

Seems like the biturbo CFCA engine has been getting 'new and updated' versions of the EGR valve every few months ... have a read of the thread above
