  • New Multivan owner questions

    Hi guys,
Long time lurker, first time poster....
I just placed an order for a new 2014 TDI340 Multivan and my wife and I want better wheels than what it comes with.
I've done a quick search and it seams that the PCD is 5x120 (going from some other VWW posts) but the wheel shop guys keep yelling me it's 5x112.
Can anyone help me out here please?
If it is 5x120, I should be able up fit anything that fits an Amarok shouldn't I?
Also can any one tell me the proper model designation, is the MY14 still a T5?
    Thanks in advance
    Cristian

Definitely 5x120. Amarok wheels will fit, but have slightly higher offsets, so will sit a few mm further in. Commodore wheels will fit as well, but the centre bore may be incorrect, and the wheels may not have the correct load rating. Also look into some BMW wheels too. Again, check the offsets, load rating and centre bore.

    They're officially known as a T5GP.

5x120, try and go for genuine mags, much stronger than the aftermarket and you won't have any load rating issues.
The model is known as a T5.1GP, the GP part is german for face lift.
          Cheers.

Go for BMW X5 wheels. Many, many styles to choose from and since the X5 is just as heavy as a Multivan, load ratings more than enough to do the job.

Kits available from the UK to fit (spigot rings and bmw wheel bolts) for about $60 incl shipping. X5 wheels cheaply available off Ebay.

Commodore wheels. Better designs, more to choose from. Get ones rated for a ute if the load rating bothers you. I have 20s on my van and looks sick.

Thank you to everyone who has replied, it is very helpful.
It's refreshing to actually have constructive help from a forum these days.

After several failed requests through the tyre shop for wheels that have been discontinued or not currently available on Oz, we have settled on a set of 18x8 CSA Chicanes.
Not what we started out looking for, but hopefully will achieve the right look.
Stag tuned cause I'm sure I'll have more numpty questions as we go.

ours has the X5s - they're quite cheap but tyres are not!

So, we took delivery on Friday afternoon. The staff at Penrith VW were very helpful.
I had a golf for the last 18 months so most of the delivery "this is how you do it" was the same, but my wife learn't few things that she didn't care about on the golf.

My wife loves how easy the van is to drive and park. I am surprised at how quickly she has warmed to it, and what it can do.
I'm now looking for options to get a little extra out of it without blowing the budget or the warranty.
Has anyone got one of these "new" van tuned?, if so who did you go with, how much did it cost and what does it feel like in the real world?
I'm more looking at a good boost to torque and improved economy than turning it into a racing van.
                    Thanks for your help guys.

did you catch how to lift the wiper blades without chipping duco on the bonnet? - I missed that one and chipped the paint, that was 4 years ago and still kicking myself.

tip - turn ignition key to 'off' then flip the wiper lever (from 'auto' or where ever) to 'on' and the wiper blades shift to vertical so they can be lifted away from windscreen without chipping paint on bonnet.

Enjoy the van, I take delivery of my 2014 T5 4motion in May. (anyone looking for a 2010 T5 132 TDI 7sp auto multivan highline with 2 paint chips?)

Nice van Cristian, wow, 2 week delivery.....I ordered mine in November, still coming.....factory built though - and I think the ship it's on is out searching for the Malaysian plane...

Ours is a TDI400, 4 motion - should be here just after easter.... also opted for stock wheels planning on an after market replacement....

I am sold on the X5 wheel solution - I like the X5 wheels, and I have seen the link you have posted elsewhere for the adaption kit in the UK:

Bolt NUT Spigot Rings TO FIT BMW X5 Alloy Wheels TO VW Transporter T5 G3 | eBay

However looking through the compatible vehicles on this site it does not show multivans....is this just an oversight or are the multivans different to the T5 and Caravelle??? I am hoping oversight?

Also - are there limitations to the dia and width you can put on the van's? I will probably go 19", but some of the 20" are nice too. I figure the dia is not a big deal as the higher you go the thinner the tyre so same dia overall, but what about width? Is there a limit that will work?

Just an oversight .... don't believe the Multivans are called Multivans in the UK. Anyway will fit all T5s.

                              Thanks Sharkie,
I had looked at Oettingers website, but the Australian distributors are a little quiet on the email front.
Most of the tunes seem to be $1k to $1.5k because of the anti tune ECUs.
I will have to hold off a while before seriously checking this out.
