T5 Transporter Manual Gear Shift Knob

It seems that the rubber grip on my T5 has given up and split to the point of being unuseable.

And while the workshop manual shows that the gear shift breaks down into separate components, I've found out from the local dealership that they don't sell just a replacement grip.

Just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem..?

My work van is a manual and has the knob with the gear shift pattern on top pry it off and there is a nut underneath to remove the part . I recently replaced the leather boot around the shaft with a nice blue and black one I found this recently and will order one as it seems quite good value and looks trick as well .VW Volkswagen T5 Transporter Aluminium Interior Gear Knob Stick Handle Dash Trim | eBay

I've been thinking about one of those aftermarket ones. Thanks for the suggestion.

Oh well, I guess I just have to get past the urge to keep things nice and OEM.
