  • Edition 25 Multivan Tyres

    Hi Guys,

Love the advice on the Forum!

I am hoping someone can advice on alternative tyres for my van. Currently has the continentals contisport contact 3 (255/45 R18 ). Still have not been able toi source locally Wollongong, NSW. Maybe someone with more experience could suggest some good alternatives.

    Thanks as always
    Jaluo

we had to replace some of them for a customer that ran over a piece of metal.. special order think due to the load rating.. not sure where they came from but took about a week to arrive... i remember them because they were $600 each at trade cost!!!!...VDUB..

Seems i am going to have to look for alternatives as they don't seem to have that many KM's as i have only done 28k but my good wife does enjoy the power...

I thought so myself and should have rotated the back to the front but it seems too late now as they seem to be pretty bald.

Just don't think think i want to spend that much on Continentals!

Wow what a difference... Our 103 Multi rolling on the stock 215/65R16 managed 60,000 before replacement, but then I have less power and smaller rims and it's a commercial tyre (Bridgestone something).... but still an amazing difference.

(While I'm here, damn that Edition 25 is a sexy van )

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

                  I managed 60,000km on the original Michelins on my 2011 132kw transporter......but they are 235 55 R17.........not the 18's your are running.

The issue with 255/45 R18 103Y XL tyres is that your choices are rather limited if you're not looking for high-performance, grippy (hence fast wearing) tyres.

It's a characteristic that many GTI and R owners already know and are familiar with, though I'd imagine less so with Multivan or Transporter owners.

I think i should be prepared to part with my tax cheque. I did get some quotes from tyre power

                      255/45R18 Conti Sport Contact 5 $525.00
                      255/45R18 Toyo C1S $320.00
                      255/45R18 kUMHO kU39 $345.00

When I first got the van loved the tyres but I knew when this day came it would hurt!

think it was the load rating that we struggled to find.. size was no issue just the load rating for a big rig! VDUB....

                          Jaluo,

Have you tried self-importing from tirerack.com? I think you used to be able to get them a set of 4 for around $250 shipping (never done it myself; my Ed25 only just has over 15K kms so far).

I did a search by tyre size - they seem to have a decent range of choices too - 11 tyres for 103W or Y speed rating, and XL. Prices for 4 (in USD) range from $632-$1,156, not including shipping.

(I don't pretend to know anything much about the quality of the tyres in that range, or generally).

If you want to stay local, my understanding is Tempe Tyres are fairly competitive too, by grey importing - but perhaps not with the same range of choices.

I'll be interested to see what you do.

You are correct about Tempe Tyres already according to their website they have the Continentals ContiSportContact 3 for $370 which is nearly half of my nearest quote. I will check out the self importing option as then i could splash out and go for the ContiSportContact 5, will let you know how i go.

                            cheers,
                            Jaluo
