In my opinion DO not let them fob you off with some half assed story that "its" normal. I will agree with others and also a question sheet from our "new" dealer we bought ours from that the DSG has some particular habits that are not seen in normal autos , I have adapted to the delay start I still do not like that it holds a gear down hill , it is early days yet with this one so I will be watching and listening . As for it being like a Honda does the Honda have a DSG ? and you are right spending over $60.000 is no small amount and you have every right to bring up your concerns or they will just run roughshod over you and everyone who complains . IMO.

Yes you are right but I doubt whether mine has had that done in pre delivery so if it is then if needed I will get ours done when in for first service , but like some of these things its only needed if the auto is misbehaving .

...and don't worry how to pay for the next A/T service, you still have 2 legs and you really need only one for the driving.

                          Hi IN2VWS
Sorry about the delay replying to your post, I have been away. I haven't had any specific problems and the mechanic who suggested my transmission is about to fail is to say the least an alarmist. I did see on another forum (or was it here) that in the big markets, US and China VW had extended the drivetrain warranty to 150,000k as an act of good faith because there had been more than an expected occurrency of failures of the DSG7 box. I still have 12 months of warranty but will be looking at doing whatever I can to head off a possible problem before the warranty expires. I am in for the 45K service next Friday and will be asking the service manager if he knows anything about problems. I expect he will say no as a matter of form but worth a try.
                          Thanks for your interest.

Thank you everyone for the interest in this DSG7 "issue". I will be talking seriously with my dealer before the warranty expires in 12 months. Maybe I'm being a bit twitchy or maybe it's about being my first new car at 65!!
                            cheers
