Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

For everyones information, I found a solution to the left hand windscreen wiper issue.
There's a procedure to put the wipers into a "service position"

Might also post this in the T5 Essentials sticky.

Well we have a 2007 tdi t5 1.9l manual that replaced a 2.5l T4 petrol. Only done 30000kms with no real dramas so far (goodyear cargo tyres had to be replaced recently) ....front suspension had some binding, other than that all services have been by the book. Glad I stayed away from the autos ... friend of ours has had their 2005 T5 auto rebuilt at 80000km under warranty and they are still not happy with its performance. Replaced the radio and installed a roof arial (existing unit and window arial were shocking!)

If I had my time over I would have preferred the manual 2.5tdi 400nm motor.....but at the time another 8-9000 clams just didn't seem worth it .

Sort of makes the bus a little incomplete, but in my opinion, it's still a bloody good vehicle.
Keep the price down or more likely increase profits as vehicle manufacturers take cost out of a car. It's very enlightening to see back to back photos of the "decontenting". While saving $10 per car on a production volume running into the hundreds of thousands does make business sense, it sure cheapens the end product when you can visually compare 2005 to 2012. And frankly with the high Australian dollar where have we seen the benefits in recent T5 specs as prices haven't dropped and it seems decontenting has occurred instead?

I was going to point that one out, but as you have found its in the manual! FYI the new Golf is the same too

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Bargain, bargain, bargain! Who is to blame? Not JUST the business.

Seems to be the way of the world today changes that are not always for the better , I just checked on the wiper thing the new T5 bonnet is 60 mls longer than the previous T5 but they did not reconfigure the wipers just made the procedure more awkward . I used to find it easy to fold out the wipers to clean and chamois the screen now its a different system so I need to be re-educated .

You can bargain the price but you cannot bargain spec levels or removal of features. I still remember when Inchape distributed VW's and decided to not specify rear wipers for vans during a T4 MY change. Not even as an option. No amount of hangling would have got them fitted without spending upto $2K if I was to diy. Salesman didn't even know they were deleted.

Reminds me of the early Vitos a rear tailgate window was an option on some models how pathetic is that .

Have been installing new sound system in our new van today Multi media unit with Wi Fi and lots of other goodies , noticed another VW "Cost Saving" had to run some wires up the side pillars and removed the speaker grills on the dash . Good on VW previous two T5,s both were standard vans had factory Tweeters installed not this baby tight arses have deleted them along with some other items as other owners have pointed out . But no worries some decent pioneer splits with a juicy amp will make the van hum , next door trims off and remove the standard speakers and replace with some more decent stuff .
