Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

    08 Multivan - antenna adaptor for aftermarket stereo

    Hi all,

    I'm planning to install a Pioneer stereo into my brother in law's Multivan.
    Can anyone confirm which antenna adaptor i need?

    These are the two different types I've seen ebay.

    Can anyone please tell me which one of the two I need?

    Totally depends if the current wiring is single or dual FAKRA in that van. Our 2005 has a different type again!

      I think you will find the cradle off the factory unit will fit the aftermarket one as most manufacturers have multipe holes to fit a variety of mounts . You may need to drill a couple of new holes in the cradle to get some holes to line up . I just read up on the Fakra system can be a bit of a bugger to work out which type as it seems that different VW models work differently . As a matter of interest I just finished a swap over in afriends T5 2012 model we used a Chinese brand double Din model with all the bells and whistles I used only one of the two connections as neither one seemed different in signal strength . The main issue with the chinese units are that the radios are Digital and as some of you would know reception of Digital radio is very limited as the stations do not want to spend money on repeater towers .         Bugger. It looks like the only way to be sure is to pull the headunit out and have a look.
