  • Run Flats!

Never seen a flat run flat but I thought the sidewall was supposed to stay rigid? What do you reckon? A new tyre needed now? This was from driving 100mts. 100km? Yeah right.

To top it off, rang VW assist - Cant help you its Sunday. Call back tomorrow and we will tow it.

When these tyres need replacing I am getting a spare and normal tyres

Your lucky you dont have to buy a new wheel after driving that far on a flat tyre!!

What made you think it was a run flat?

The salesman told me.....? I think it was him when he was explaining the mobility kit. Or maybe I just misunderstood.

Anyway - id say it will be off the road for a few days because I cant see any tyre places having this particular tyre in stock. Definitely going to look into a spare though.

Runflats are really not worth the compromise in ride quality for the sake of not having a spare.

Used the mobility kit this arvo and its got some go in it. Better than the last compressor I got from supercrap auto... It got the tyre to about 36 psi in under 5 mins which i thought was good.

Downside is I found the nail and its flat again....

We had one of our normal tyres blow out some years ago blistering hot day I could sense a strange vibration but nothing happened for about ten minutes until it just blew travelled about 2oo metres until stopped as we had a trailer on the back so I just let the van roll stop by itself , I learnt from a defensive driving course not to brake with a blow out . The tyre was absolutly destroyed the whole inside was in shreds [turned out they were faulty from new] got two new ones for free , lucky part was the alloy wheel was undamaged worst part stinking hot day unhitch trailer and get spare out from underneath fully loaded van what a bastard job that was.

Just buy a quill repair kit and plug it?

Your local tyre shop can also plug it for around $25, that's $575 in your pocket

Not sure about sidewall damage but im getting another rim and making a spare out of the damaged tyre as I am not a huge fan of plugs.

                        And they are csc3 255 45 r18.

You'll have clearance issuses undernieth with the 18in spare, and there's a pretty good chance the wheel and tyre wont fit in the spare wheel carrier anyway.

                          Hence the mobility kit.

Not wanting to be the fun police but are those tyres load rated for a multivan?
